Before pic looks like a wheel covered in human hand grease. After pic looks like one with that grease stripped off. Remember it’s painted leather. If you do strip the paint off, you can respray it using paint from Volico.

"I'd love to change my steering wheel, the 220/215 steering wheel buttons are too far away from the rim and you have to move your hand round the wheel to use the buttons."

Well, if you did, it looks absolutely gorgeous - terrific job. You can buy recolouring and sealing kits on the bay - everything you need in the kit. If you have removed a layer you need to get it sealed before natural dirt and stains reoccur.

You quite possibly will have damaged the top layer as those little magic sponges are nasty and aggressive if not used with extreme care. I tried them on a leather seat once though started on an unseen area. The result was enough for me to decide to use something else instead. I also tried them on a kitchen cupboard door (gloss white) and it took a lot more time to re-polish it as it took the gloss off it.

As stated above though, you could always recolour the wheel...

I will have to complete the job anyway with the eraser
Then look at how to seal, repaint, renovate... whatever the wheel

2500-3000 grit paper, very gentle rub down all over. Detack with a damp microfibre and leave to dry. Then spray some Volico paint of the correct shade (they will match to your VIN) in a thin layer. Leave to dry, rub down and give another coat. Repeat until you have 3-4 coats on and job jobbed.

Yeah, they do clean up your leather steering wheel brilliantly.
Took the horrible glossy sheen off mine a treat, now back to a beautiful matt- and feels great too.
Plus it's so easy to do.
They are excellent on interior windows too, Wipe window first with dry microfibre then use your magic eraser to remove grease and gunk then dry, then just follow with glass cleaner or white vinegar.

I bought a kit for my steering wheel. Unfortunately I did not get the VIN and data to them so got a basic mix it yourself kit.
I think I'll end up buying a steering wheel cover.
