Could be a balljoint, droplink, sway bar bush, rack end or broken spring.
The only way to find out is to get underneath and check each part

I get knocked from the passenger side too and a lot of whining - it seems to stop when I drive alone ;):D

Sorry, wrong forum...

This was my first thought.

“Issue: whining noise from front passenger area.”
“Solution: remove front passenger.”

I don’t know if it’s the same as my E class,
I had a knock noise every time I went over a sharp bump, turned out to be upper ball joints.
This Is how I checked mine on my E-class;

Jack the car up at the front till the wheel is off the ground. Then check as if you testing for a bad wheel bearing rock the wheel backwards and forwards in the 12 and 6 position if it rocks look closely at the upper ball joint if you can see movement it’s the upper ball joint that’s causing the issue!

Yep. On a 211 it can be upper balljoint. On a 210 or 203 its usually (but not always) droplinks. On a 129 its broken swaybar brackets or drag links or steering idler or swaybar bushes or strut top mount, on a 230 its balljoints on the arms or the strut balljoint. We've had knocking caused by broken springs on all cars at one time or another. The only way is to get down and check. Otherwise its only ever a guess.

Suspension top mounts or internal to the shocks.

Drop link, seems to be the most common reason for a knock from the front suspension

On the 204 it appears the strut itself or the top mount are the usual culprits. As they are also the most expensive check everything else first by looking at it from under the car and testing each joint.

No problem :)

If there are no obvious sources of movement in suspension joints then the top strut mount will likely be the culprit or the strut itself.
