The 8 year old battery, pretty much stayed at 12.7 V. :-/
you need to get it drop tested pal , the volts wont tell you wether the battery is actually healthy , ive just put a new bosch one on the 216 , the old one read a steady 12.5v but only 460amp ! So was buggered[/QUOTE]
agreed Simon
That the only true test.
But leave it 3 days and the starter sounds sluggish.
Its actually almost cheaper to replace than to have it tested at MB.
And I dont really trust the Halfords folks.

Will leave it till its warmer weather and if she fails to start get Mobilo to test it properly.

Mine would definitely be a non starter in a month.
Reccommend The CTEK “Stop Start” it is great.
No AGM destroying pre charge 15.3V desulphation cycle ...
Worth getting those quick release eyelets so its a 30 second safe connection.
They are lovely and small so can be squeezed in the tightly packed engine bay ... and shut the lid. :):):)

Looking at buying the CTEK MXS 3.8, but I daft question has arisen... (I am the morphine!)

Should I put it on main battery for starting duties, or consumer battery???

I guess I can always do both - maintenance charge consumer in the morning (or if damp day) and main battery in afternoon (or sunny day).

Did an oil and filters change yesterday, dropping the oil the old fashioned way via the sump plug left it draining for about 20/30 minutes. Only took 7.5 litres not the 8 but the electronic dipstick say's "Oil OK"
Just want to sort my non working headlight washers I think the pumps give up, and then we're good for a trip to Pembroke shire for Easter weekend :)

Clayed, polished and sealed the paint on the 190. Yet again.

It's been done a few times now but every time I do it I end up doing some stupid job or other, usually involving paint, and manage to contaminate the surface again. This time will hopefully be the last for a while though I've left the bonnet and roof for another day as these will want a bit of machine work on them. I know it will never be perfect due to a very poor respray being done previous to my tenure, but if I can get it something like I'll accept it. For this year anyway...

More polishing tomorrow then a couple of coats of wax on Sunday all being well. :)

We may be oop north a weekend around then too (though thinking about it more likely to be after the 15th). Need to go to Gairloch to sort out deceased Uncle's estate. Been putting it off all winter....

Just gone past 60 000 miles. I've done 15 000 of them in 2.5 years. Amazing how your mileage drops when you retire. Still love the car. It's still like new, even though it's not worth much. To me it's better than a lot of new cars costing over £25 000.

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg As I changed the oil , oil filter , air filters and pollen filter a couple of days ago , I thought I'd clean it .
Clay barred first , then a coat of Autoglym wax .
Jet washed the engine after degreasing as well . After the engine dried I quick squirt of ACF 50 spray .

Just a warning that one has the 15.8V desulphation pre charge .. Varta technical who make my MB Battery said they are finding this is prematurely killing AGM batteries. The loosened sulphates has nomwhere to go! With the Gel.

Depends how long you intend to keep the car? Probably May not matter if it lasts 4 years not 7 years :)
The Start Stop is their latest for AGM batteries. No 15.3v precharge.

On my SL500 two batteries, the MB technician said it had to go on this battery in the boot! If I wanted to charge it in situ. He was very forceful about this. The good news was the boot self closers seemed more gentle on the 240v power cable.

What I didn't find out was ... once the rear battery was fully charged .. did it then start charging the front (starter ?) battery?

All I can say is it worked on all four R230s I had. And didnt void my warranty.

No idea on yours, but I would check with someone who understands this stuff ... I do not.
