Pirelli Pzero Runflat splitting

Hi all, new here.

I recently had my nearside tyre split all around the inside of the tread, which I replaced. Forgot to get videos or pictures or keep the tyre to complain, only though about that afterwards. I took it into Mercedes to see if there was any issue with the suspension that might have caused it, they said everything was fine but should have a 4 wheel alignment at £200, which I did. I have just checked the offside and it is doing the same thing, I'm not sure that these tyres should be having the tread split away from the side wall after 20k miles? Still has 4mm left on the tread. Anyone had anything similar and what are the chances of getting something from Mercedes for the defect? Thanks in advance

Update on this, Mercedes said nothing to do with them, manufacturer problem. Got the tyre dealer to send the tyre back to Pirelli, not expecting anything and they allowed a 50% concession on the tyre without admitting liability.

That will help, the sidewalls on those are like rocks...

My P Zero's did the same thing on the front, however mine was down to tracking.

This is a new, but now worn rear P Zero on my 55, they were free but always check the dates!!!!!

If the damage is on the inside edges of the tyres a possible reason is the constant "straddling" of the smaller speed bumps (ie the ones that don't fit across the entire width of the road), which is something I see frequently where I live. This means that the inner edges of the tyre come into contact with the edges of the speed bump, which are themselves often very abrasive due to damage/lack of repair.

Any damage caused is not easily noticeable, being on the inner edge of the tyre.

I'm no defender of these type of speed bumps, but they are best tackled at low speed with one tyre going over the centre of one while the other tyre is flat on the road ie avoiding contact with the edges.

This may be nothing to do with the OPs issue, but as two tyres have been found to have problems it would be worth checking the remaining two, if not done already...

Good point, I have been guilty of attacking the speed humps by running the 4 tyres over the edges, food for thought.

I would go to a reputable wheel alignment place like wheels in motion and get it setup properly. MB's often seem to be setup with too much neg camber and wear the insides of tyres quickly. At least that would remove one possibility.
