Dear All,

Whilst visiting MB in North Oxford this week, my second visit regarding poor radio reception, I decided to open up another can of worms and asked about a Sat Nav update. I was told that an update was only performed free of charge during a service and only if the customer requested it before hand. If I wanted an upgrade it would cost me £100. I commented that as I had only bought the car from them 2 months ago and the car had been serviced by them last November, then surely the update should have been performed. I was asked if the upgrade was requested last November, to which I replied I have no idea as I had only possessed the car for 2 months. I was told it would cost me £100.
I then demanded to see the Sales Manager, as this coupled with the myriad of other problems I have faced since buying this car annoyed me....some-what. The Sales manager told me that the update was not free of charge when the car is serviced as it has to be requested and paid for as an additional cost. It seems that they have to buy the software download off MB and pass the charges to the customer. It is not software which is held on file and can be transferred into numerous cars Sat Nav systems repeatedly.
When I approached the person that told me this software was free during a service, he deigned ever making this statement. This did not surprise me as I have had 2 months experience dealing with this dealership and realise that its a loosing battle.

So can anyone tell me the truth regarding this matter?

Regards

Satnav updates are free within the initial 3 year warranty period but if you don't request them, IME the dealer doesn't do them.

I have had free updates on my previous car a 2014 E300 Hybrid and on my present car a 2016 E350, all were done separately from the service as the dealership prefers to park the car away from the normal work area and run the update which can take a couple of hours.

I have never had any issues from my dealership when asking for a update to the navigation.

It sounds to me like your dealership are putting it plainly pretty pants at the customer service side of things.

You have spent a good deal of money on a car and should expect much better.

Maybe look for another dealership that values your custom.

If its a UK vehicle with comand system, them if requested whilst the vehicle is in for prior work during the first 3 years, u get free map updates.

it does not apply to becker map pilot / garmin systems. if an owner is to stupid to request inside the three years, regardless of your relationship, purchase history of Mercedes vehicles or number of services a dealer had charged you, there is no obligation to belatedly make your day.

if buying an approved used car with comand inside 3.5 years of first reg I would suggest its well worth exploring whether the selling dealership want to do the decent thing.

mapping is identical for a given comand system, to install, a keycode is required. I doubt if a main dealership need to reimburse anyone and if they did its probably 20 quid, but workshop time is around 3 hours of programming of which around 1 hour is chargeable.

the £100 deal (which is great value) has been about for circa 2 years, previously we would be talking in the region of £350 for an update to European mapping on a Merc or BMW
