Today I fitted a second 12V socket in the car, this one into the boot to provide power for a travel fridge.

As I don’t have a fuse box in the boot to tap into, I’ve connected directly to the battery terminals.

First. Find your source of power.

Second. Buy a 12V socket. This was £5.86 from Amazon Prime, it is of the panel mount type and terminates in simple spade connectors. I bought some high temp resistance hookup wire , crimped spade terminals on the end and fitted them to the socket assembly. Black to negative and red to positive.

Third. Identify the location for your socket to be fitted. Due to space behind panelling issues, mine is going here, conveniently next to the battery.

Fourth. With a hole saw, cut an appropriately sized hole into the trim you wish your socket to be mounted into.

Fifth. Insert the socket in wires first. Pull the wires through and feed the clamp nut back along them to meet the socket backshell. Tighten up until the socket is locked in place.

Sixth. Add an inline fuse to prevent fire/ explosion/ death. These were £7 from Amazon for a pack of 3. Connect up to your power supply.

Eight. Reattach your trim, connect your appliance and you’re good to go.

Funky looking travel fridge, details please, pretty please ;) Interested to hear how it fares on your holiday.

Luckily I have sensible neighbours and only 11 of them, so I can talk to them beforehand like human beings!
Just for completeness I checked the quality in the water butt and it’s 41ppm , so better than mains at 248 ish ppm, not as good as through the filter at 8ppm. I doubt the head in the butt would produce enough pressure to flow through the filter which is a pity....

Could a filter not be fitted to the inlet of the water butt/ in the downpipe?

I'm v happy with lack of white runs by using the wb.

Shame image over substance is a feminine trait

Had a Waeco for over 10 years before it died, then replaced it with a Dometic who bought out Waeco. It lasted less than a year. :(:(

Looks a little awkward to open in situ as well!
It’s the type with a split lid, and the length is just enough for the free bit to open without moving the fridge.

Leaves no room for luggage though...

I can appreciate that. I'm happy with the C350 at the moment. Even though I have spent more than I wanted initially.
If you take the plunge consider the R232 most the R230 issues have been sorted, road tax only £300, insurance sub £300, 30 mpg .

Put the charger on the 190 this afternoon as it's not really done much for the last few months and I've decided that, weather permitting, it's going to have a run to N Wales tomorrow.

It then gets a rest for a few hours while I meet up with a few old mates and then it's off to Preston to a bit of a meet Sunday morning. All together about a 160 mile round trip.

Surprised that the battery had lost so much charge really as there aren't too many electronics on the car, but I suppose a few stop/starts and shunts in and out of my garage don't really help. I'll monitor it over the next couple of weeks and, if it drops again, treat it to a new one as I have no record of how old the current one is.

Looking forward to giving it a run to be honest, it's such a nice little thing to drive. :)

Used to have a C63...
Went for test drive.
Quite an eye-opener, in more ways than one!
Huge fun, surprisingly comfortable doing the dull stuff.
