Semi newbie with a new car and a new problem with supercharger on an SLK

Air flow meter, also called a mass airflow sensor, mass airflow meter, airflow sensor and various other things! It's the meter of air entering the engine and was covered in oil, no doubt PCV system will need a look at next

    Reading fault codes

After a bit of digging the 98 model doesn't implement OBDII, it is Mercedes only so no diagnostics for me. I tried the LED but that didn't work either so its carsoft or STAR if you find yourself in the same boat as me

    Supercharger woes

Well I managed to fix it. I figured the AFM or cam position sensor were the most likely suspects for causing the ECU to fail to trigger and for £20 I could afford to try it out. The AFM was changed and immediately boost was restored. I even put the clutch back to ECU control and it's all good now

    Supercharger woes

I am indeed stabbing in the dark but I have no way of getting the codes, this is one of the intermediate years from some reading which means you can only get codes with Carsoft and the 38 pin connector which I don't have. Correct, the ECU isn't sending the ground signal to the clutch and I...

    Supercharger woes

I Need a few ideas now if you can guys and girls, I have an 170 SLK230 which I just bought and it's very under powered. It has 12V to the clutch but no switched ground from the ECU, K40 checked out good and the MOSFET didn't fix it. Tonight I have put 12V into the clutch connector and it...

    Reading fault codes

I have a 98 SLK 230 (170) and need to read out fault codes. It doesn't have an OBD socket but does have the 38 pin connector in the engine bay. I got an adaptor today and connected this to a Maxiscan code reader which I normally use and it can't talk, any ideas?

:) Well thanks, I would normally knock up a guide but I'm not seeing a happy ending to this one. If I do reach a conclusion then I'll certainly pop it all together - thanks for the welcome!

Well the FET arrived, didn't make any difference, now waiting for my 38 pin adaptor so I can have a go at pulling out error codes :(

Thanks, it was a bit of an impulse buy but I'm quite liking it. Sadly the transistor didn't come in the post so no more fixing today but I can spend some time on the other you (grinnal Scorpion) instead

Semi newbie with a new car and a new problem with supercharger on an SLK

So tonight's update - I figured the K40 wasn't responsible because I have the +12V at the supercharger clutch but I decided to whip it out anyway and resolder it. Looks brand new so I guess has been replaced. Whilst I was there I checked the ECU fan and it wasn't working, popped it out and put...

Semi newbie with a new car and a new problem with supercharger on an SLK

OK after a bit of searching it sounds like I need to pull the K40 module and resolder it or potentially the ECU has a dodgy FET (BUK101 50DL), on we plod ...

Semi newbie with a new car and a new problem with supercharger on an SLK

Just had a quick check and I have +12V on one of the pins to actuate the supercharger so the other (presumably a switched ground) isn't triggering

Semi newbie with a new car and a new problem with supercharger on an SLK

Hi all, I haven't been around here for quite a while but just got a new toy tonight, it's a 98 SLK 230 (170) and is in much better shape than I was expecting, no rust on any arches and pretty reasonable all round. It was way too slow though so I just had a quick look in the dark and found a 2...
