    Rear quarter glass drain hole.

On the R230 the outlet is behind the plastic under tray. You'd need to take it off to find the drain. But that said, clearing it from below would just be a temporary fix because the debris is still in there, same as poking wires in washer jets, it won't last.

    Rear quarter glass drain hole.

This post is info that might help someone . I've had a problem with the rear passenger side carpet. getting very wet. I didn't find much from searching but remembered a post about rear drop glass motors seizing because of blocked drain holes. I found no info on which drain hole might be blocked...

    Spare wire near can connectors.

I lifted the carpet on my 2003 R230 passenger side to check for damp and found that there is a white wire not connected at the CAN connectors under the carpet. I've done a search of the forum and can find no mention of a white wire. Does anyone know what it it might be for please?

Could “excessive front wheel bearing play” cause a front wheel sensor to send a fault code and ABS and ESP not working.

We're suffering from a generation of mechanics that have never seen taper roller bearings and how they are adjusted. My SL had front wheel bearing free play as MOT advisories for sound six years before I owned it. As said above it would need to be hanging off to affect the ABS sensor

    Living with an R230

The fuel tank baffles come loose in early cars causing a banging noise from behind the passengers. Most will have been "fixed" now. Some brave souls like me changed the tank.

    Any F1 fans

The stupidity of F1 raises it's head virtually every week. Lewis banned from wearing a nose stud was taking enforcement of the rules to silliness levels. Just like the jack touching the back of of Alonso's car was silly. He touched it, he didn't lift it. Lewis has a nose stud not a watch or gold...

    Service History?

The service history should be the last thing you look at after making sure that the car is something you might consider buying. No service history at all doesn't mean it's a bad car. A massive folder of receipts and "history" could mean it's a bad car or one that's had hard use.

W221 Genuines MB Discs & Pads looking dangerous within less than 3,000 miles - what is the potential issue?

If I was asked what I thought without any background information I would say the they hadn't fitted new discs. The rust on the hub, the wear and pitting just don't happen in 3000 miles. . My SL sits for weeks on end and the discs look almost new after 3 years and 4000 miles. If a customer had...

    ML270 stuck in park

Try moving the steering lock to lock to reset the steering angle sensor after the battery replacement. If there is no sound from the gear shift area when pressing the brake I would change the brake light switch before going any further with the gearshift problem. If not that you will need to...

They're adjusted through the wheel bolt hole. There's no hole in the backplate.

W221 Park brake drum brake adjustment ?

The actuator motor pulls the cables to operate the brake shoes. Certainly on the older cars there was an adjuster inside the drum like most other Mercs. You may have to deactivate the electric brake so that it doesn't keep trying to operate the motor when it's in park.

I feel like overhauling my ABC plumbing

There is at least one person on a Facebook group who had every major ABC component changed on his car about 3 or 4 years ago at huge cost. He recently posted that he is having problems again. ABC is an over complex system and great when it works. However, no amount of work or money can...

    R230 winter storage

My car sits out all winter under covers I buy from e bay for around £40. I've never had a problem with them. I buy a new one every year because no matter how I try I can't prevent bits of leaf etc getting stuck to the inside when it's taken off and folded up. As an alternative to ceramic...

Brake Calipers and use of Red Rubber Grease

The correct grease for metal contact points is silicone brake grease. Most brake manufacturers sell their own version. The Mintex one is called Ceratec. It's about £3 for a tube that should last a DIY mechanics about 30 years.

Brake Calipers and use of Red Rubber Grease

Using abrasive wire wheels or emery cloth on the slider will make things worse. Buy a set of new pins, use the grease that is supplied. Red rubber grease is used when rebuilding cylinders and calipers. In those repair kits that is what is supplied. Copper grease is low melting point grease with...
