£550 for exhaust on w124

The front section's gone, just checked an old invoice from Euro car parts. 7 years ago the complete system was £351, rang 'em today £550 supply only. Anyone know if thats about the right price or is it worth shopping around. The fitting of it is going to be around £130, so I'm looking at £680. Only paid to have a fuel blockage done last week as well, it's becoming expensive.

Just look on Ebay and there are plenty of Ebay shops based in Germany that sell them cheap.

Two year guarantee etc etc,two rear boxes for my 1990 w124 300d saloon were just under £90 to my door.

Just as good quality as stock the only difference is the parts are coated before welding so you need to cover the spot welds to stop the rot getting a hold ,so just as in my case spray a can of red primer on them and then blow over with a can of PJ1. motorcycle frame paint.

No just spray over the weld spots and the jobs a good one.

Lots of bits and pieces on there if you search,I had rear discs and pads (new from Germany) for £32 again to my door.

Wunderpartz is a excellent ebay shop.

I have an E220 so a vested interest. At this price does it include the catalytic converter. I have mine since 1997 and have just gone to Kwik Fit but never needed a cat as yet.

Eternal on Ebay is the cheapest. I've had three exhausts off them in the past couple of years. Ok, not quite up to MB/Bosal spec, but then they're a fraction of the price. £100 or so should net you a full system. They are guaranteed for two years as well i think.
How long are you keeping the car, and how much is it worth? If its a keeper for life then i'd get a stainless system fitted for £3-400. If not, why spend a fortune???
Alternatively, many W124's are broken up. You could try a salvage yard and get a good quality lightly used system for little outlay.
I bought a used OE centre section for a W123 over 2 years ago, and its still good..
The choice is yours. £500 for a mild steel system? You'd be mad to pay that!

How much are the genuine MB systems?

A few years ago I got MB middle and rear fitted on my 300ce-24 for around €650. That was in France.

What would that cost now?

well, rear box from MB £156 + VAT with discount - Ebay rear box £45 all in is probably why... MB one may last 15 years, but if you just want to get through an Mot.....

15 years is long time, dont think I'll be keeping the old girl that long. Having said that when I bought this exhaust in '03 I didn't think I'd still have the car now. In 30 years of owning about 12 cars, I've never replaced the exhaust twice. Think I'll be getting the ebay from Germany one, if it lasts 7 yrs and 60,000 mls that'll do me.

I notice you stated the front section has gone after 7 years.

By comparison,both my 190Es have their original front sections after 17 years and my 280SL after 26 years.
