Hi,

I’ve done one of these already for I think it was an 8 month update, well now I’ve owned the car for a whole year now so here is what I’ve thought and encountered during my time of owning this car.

Firstly it’s a 2005 Mercedes E270 CDi currently sitting at 96k miles, bought a year ago on 78k miles with a very healthy Mercedes main dealer service history, and also only 1 owner before me.
My family has always had mercs since I was a child so I have grown up with them all my life. Initially I was only looking for a small economic car like a Golf etc...
So flicking through autotrader and I clicked on Mercedes Benz and I saw all these E-classes all within my budget! So I looked at a few couldn’t afford to insure a 320, so went to look at a few E270’s and ended up with this one.
Reliability has been great I mean I’ve had upper ball joints done (did it myself) and had to have lower ball joints done too (didn’t do myself) and I’m pretty sure that is all!
Just went for its MOT and it passed with zero advisory’s so very happy there, renewed the insurance a month ago or so that only cost me £840 (bearing in mind I am 23 years old)
Fuel has been very good too, I mean when I don’t really care I do about 34-35mpg then when I do care I do about 42mpg and on a run I can easily hit over 50mpg!
I thought this car would of costed me a fortune to run but that is simply not the case, I admit filling it up is a bit of a ball ache £94, but that’ll last almost 2 weeks and tax is slightly higher but it’s no more expensive to run than a Passat! Servicing costs me roughly £180 (major every year) at a German specialist.
So I’ve almost done 20k miles in a year more than this car has ever done in a year and it’s never let me down.
It’s completly changed my mind of replacing it next year.

Good write up, the main point is that you bought a well cared for car, diligence always pays

The 270cdi motor was one of the best of it’s generation plenty on here reached 150k miles with few issues

Great looking car there. Great advert for the point of servicing and looking after a car.
Don't worry about insurance, I'm 43 and mine was £620 :(.

Thanks, it’s by no means perfect, little scratches here and there but I guess it’s 13 years old. It’s basic things to look out for on these cars!

Thanks! It’s jusy basic servicing that keeps these cars going on for years! And yeah insurance wasn’t bad to be fair, especially for my age!

I checked my previous MOT’s before I bought it I thought it didn’t too bad it’s failed a couple of times but only on very minor things!

It looks like I’ll be sticking with Mercedes for a while! My dad even says it’s better than his CLS

Same here, my 211 270 was the first Merc I'd driven nd bought, loved every minute of the car for the 6 years and 110k miles I put on it, the om647 is a great engine and should never have been dropped from the line up

Nice write-up, Adam.

Glad you're enjoying your car - I've had my '07 C220 Estate since Feb '13 and I still love it to bits.
