Help.
Has anyone knowledge how to remove the fixed rear side window in a 230TE estate car. The rubber seal is perished and it would be easy enough but for the external metal trim piece which seems to be inserted into the rubber and is fixed to the rear of the door frame by two screws.
Have tried prising it off at the top front edge after undoing the screws but just suceeded in bending the external trim.
Any advice would be appreciated!

That is how it is fixed on. From memory there are 2 plastic locating clips under the leading edge of the trim too which need gently prising away (1 top and 1 bottom)

The trim just pulls out of the rubber seal. It has an arrow-shaped head to spread the trim & hold the glass in place. It is made of very soft aluminium

These windows are refered to as 'Cargo' windows by Merc. And believe it or not the ally piece is a 'cargo moulding';)
Once you removed the screws start at the very botton front corner and with a wide tool (like a boardsplitter) gently prise the corner out. The vertical side is only held by two nylon plugs, it's the top run that is spiked into the rubber by the spear-shaped ingo that gives all the trouble. STOP now you have some tension on it and insert a wooden wedge between the trim and the glass to mantain tension and go for a cuppa. When you come back hopefully the trim will have released itself some more. If you have a silicone spray with a long probe now you can skoosh it along the channel which will help. Repeat the process till it is off paying particular attention at the top corner where (as you have found) it will kink. The trick to try and not kink it is to wedge it out from both sides of the angle simultaneously, it's the levering at the corner which does the harm. TAKE YOUR TIME.
When you come to replace them a generous helping of silicone gease on the rubber slot will help it go in. (as the Bishop said etc;) )

When you have the trim out get inside the rear wearing a pair of soft slippers and with a mate waiting outside push gently with your foot on the top front corner of the glass. It looks like it is about to break but if you maintain gentle pressure the glass will pop out. Do you know the trick with a length of string for glass replacement?
Be prepared to find a (very) rusty flange on the lower front edge. This is the place from where most 124 estates leak their water into the back seat footwell.

I have two of these cargo trims in the garage, spare in good condition. Postage might be a problem. PM me.
