hi, I am about to embark on a 190sl 1956 restoration, a personal project with a local restorer friend - I am not sure of something however and just need some help! The current car is a hard top, and for a variety of reasons including personal choice I want to restore it as a soft top, appreciate there will be expense involved but I’m struggling with the technical bit of if it’s possible and how it’s done? Any advice just to get me on track would be apprecusted1

I suspect by doing your proposed alteration you will devalue your asset. Better to sell the coupe and purchase a cab. I would have thought.

Thanks Michael, yes this something I’ve wrestled with but as it’s for me to keep I’m ok with it, want to enjoy it and the way I acquired it means I can’t in all good conscience do what you suggest........regards

I did'nt know there was 190 SL with (only) hard top. The best you can do is to get in touch with a soft top 190 SL owner to compare.
