Hi, I've just bought a 1997 SLK 230 last weekend and I have to say I'm over the moon with it! I've had a few Mercedes in the past, 1984 500SE, 1991 300SE, 1984 230E etc but this is my first convertible and I'm genuinely really astounded by the build quality compared to my 1996 Alfa Romeo GTV (say no more) which was immaculate.
Anyway, it's clearly been looked after (no rust anywhere) having just 3 owners from new and only 61k on the clock (3k a year) and fully stamped service book. Even the rubberised paint on the console is in tact! Only thing is although the key fob opens and locks the doors no problem I noticed the central locking button near the hazard switch doesn't work a couple days ago, nor the interior light or locking fuel cap. Also doesn't auto lock when I set off although being an early model it might not anyway.
I read somewhere it's all related to the PSE but that doesn't explain why it would work ok off the remote key fob. Any ideas? I know it's a common problem on these but if someone could confirm then point me in the direction of what to do next that would be great! It doesn't bother me too much as doesn't effect the driving obviously but as the car is in such great shape it's a shame to not keep it right.
