Hello all, my ml has just burned(assume so as there are no leaks) the sump of oil on me, the light has just started flashingafter about 5k miles. Done one oil change and I cant think what oil I used, the young fella at the main dealers chucked it at me and said thats the stuff so I took his word for it. What oil should I use and can this make a difference in consumtion?. No blue smoke visible when driving and it has 87k on the clock.
Thanks in advance
Mike

The oil type will be either in the manual, or on a plate in the engine bay. Mobil 1 fully synthetic is the popular choice.

Is that a diesel or a petrol? Mines a diesel and uses no oil whatsoever.

Cheers Parrot, its petrol, I topped it up with a litre from a service station and it brought it right back up to full on the dipstick, so maybe not a full sump of oil being burned but the oil level was only showing at the bare tip of the stick.
Mobil it is.
Cheers

I was given a liter of shell, after my service this week, it seems that they are changing owing to the high price of Mobil oil

Your manual will give the excact figures, but the acceptable oil consumption figures MB give for the engines is extremely high, There tolerances are very high for "normal consuption". you will be supprised.
I dont think you have any cause for concern.

I need to do my oil change actually, its 10k since the last one and I can hear the engine getting a bit noisier.

Wheres the cheapest place to get 10 litres of Mobil 1 0W-40?

Got some from Costco. £20 + VAT for 4 litres of Mobil 1 0W-40, and I'm vat registered also :) Bought 8 litres of the stuff.
