Sequence of events , OK had the headlight bulbs changed by Mobilo proper MB technician ...
All was well.
Went for 16 mile drive all was good.
Gremlin 1.
Came hone opened boot and heard a sound like a fan running in the left rear wing.
Pressed button to shut boot .. it only went half way down! :( still could hear fan noise running )
Pushed boot shut and opened and closed , all worked fine no fan noise. Tried 5x all well including clever tricks like shutting boot with keys in it ... shuts then pops open as it should.
Self sorted !

Gremlin 2
As the car has been stationery for a few days decided to give it a top up charge.
Checked voltage 12.6V to 12.7V ( 6 month old battery about what I expected ).

Did the full monty AC off, Comand off, Keyless Go Button out, ign. Keynturned left and removed.
Waited till the current drain shut down to 20mA.

Put on CTEK checked voltage 12.8V and 3.59A as it should be.
One slight mistake put CTEK in its normal position, corner edge touching on the air intake tube, which was slightly warm.
As usually paranoid about this charger as it can get warm, checked later ant it was 13.7V and 3.59A
Imwas expecting about 14V and maybe a circa 3A by now.

Then touched CTEK and it was very hot. So moved it away from luke warm air intake tune abd cooled with a cold wet towel, cooled down in 3 mins.
Rechecked it had gone to 14V and 2.68A more like normal.
So I assumed maybe it was just ready to drop the amps or being warm it had constrained its voltage.
Not too worried

Had to go to the shops turned on engine
The dashboard says "ABS and ESP Not Currently available!
See owners Manual"

OMG tried it with and without key / keyless go button.
Still same message.

**** had the CTEK got too hot and fried something. Expensive!
So put the CTEK oncharge again 13.7V and 2.68A. All OK
>>>> I assume had the CTEK got too hot hopefully it would shut down, saya it has protection in it.
And in any event it couldnt self repair itself could it?

Decided to go for a drive ...
Stopped, turned of engine, 0 Messages ... thats odd?
Then ign key pos 1 just the airbag light, ign key pos 2 All dash lights .
Press KLG again all off , put in P ... locked car . All per normal.

Then got in and pressed brake and pushed (very nervously) the Start button ... vroom .. :):) everything fine! No messages No ABS and ESP warning message.
Tried it 8 times All Perfect!

WTF is this just a glitch or is it indicative of something nasty?

I would normally put this down to coincidence, and a computer glitch.
But as its at my Indy's on Thursday is it worth paying them to look on STAR ?

Two options:

1) Ignore it and stop fretting until it happens again
2) Pay the money, get it checked so you don't need to fret

If you had disconnected the battery, then the ABS/ESP are 'normal', and as you say reset themselves as soon as you drive/use brakes.
:)

Noise on left of boot was probably just the PSE pump building pressure, which is maybe why your boot didn't 'self close', only get worried if it keeps doing it which may mean one of the lines is leaking, or pump is weakening....but don't panic :)

the manual says the self testing may not be complete.
Drive the car over 20mph and turn the wheel left and right a little ... till it clears.
Guess it cleared.??

Ref ABS/ESP I did not disconnect the battery.
Weirdly the manual just says drive it and turn the wheel till it clears.
Will see if its doing it today

A number of U Tube offerings for this fault point to a dirty wheel sensor, just wondered if my more than usual coppa slip on the rear brakes was interfereing

Or one other nasty symtom cause was the distance from the bearing to the reluctor ring was incorrect.
Hmmm will put the MBII on today and pray its not the rear right where the maindealer has just replaced the hub and bearing!
That would be my only concern.

Pretty sure the PSE pump is strong, sounds healthy (had one go bad on the SL500 after a massive real seal leak so know that sound)
I am pretty sure this was just a software glitch
She doesnt like the boot being closed manually, and can only half open if you shut it manually, until you open and shut her with the buttons .... then its all good.

Putting the boot down to a glitch.

Will start proper thread on ABS ESP thing. As this is a bit confusing, ref CTEK confirm they can get jolly hot. And in any event they would shut down if they go over their parameters .. and mine is like the lowest powered one they do , with max amps at 3.6A
And 14.4V max ( it has no desulphation 15.3V cycle ).

It all sounds like a low voltage issue. Any codes?

I thought that, but with the music on properly , one doesnt get this noise from the wing.
Plus would shutting the lid manually turn off the the HK Amp?
That is the only thing with a fan in it in the boot.

The fans in the HK Amp continue to run for a short while after you turn off the ignition from my experience so maybe it was that?

It might have been but you dont get that noise even if the amp is running for an hour at max volume.
Coupled with the messed up boot locking sequence, I suspect something like the pneumatic locking pump.

Luckily its not come back and the boot shuts perfectly every time and that noise has not reappeared :).
