Hi all.

Ok so I have a 2000 clk230 avantgarde and it has a gearbox selector issue, to move the gear selector you first have to push a screwdriver down so as the lever will then move and select.

I think it's the gear selector under the centre console? Am I right or am I barking up the wrong tree here? I've read that some kind of plate needs to be pushed/released, that's why the selector won't move until this is pressed. The guy I bought it from kindly donated his screwdriver as well, so I'm already up one of those....

Any and all help would be great.

Thanks
Andrew.

It might be as simple as a broken brake light switch. The gear selector won't move unless it knows your foot is on the brake.
Only a few quid on eBay, expect there is YouTube video showing how to change it.

More likely a failed selector module. The brake switch has other symptoms.
People commonly put drinks on the selector, spill them and guess what's underneath...?

That's the component under the selector I believe isn't it? About £90 or there abouts?

That's the one.
Probably best to get it on an MB specific reader and check the codes to be sure.

Just thinking there's a little plastic bush that can break too. I'll hunt out details tomorrow.

Lots of used CLK parts on eBay, so get the part number and then search for one on there.

Push the gear lever gator slide forward and it will expose a little pen slot. Push the screwdriver down there.

You can buy a second hand lever and fit, no coding, just plug and play.

Take a look at this:

Google for Mercedes shifter repair. Plenty of info about it.
