Hi Guy's,

I have to agree with Malcolm, Some things that happen can be random symptoms which cause a degree of misdirection. Everything that happens needs to be viewed with an open mind and not always just taken at face value.
It is worth having a look at the fuel filter, I'll get on it as soon as the wife releases her car to me, provided it doesn't break down before then!

I bought a cheap pattern make AMM, not genuine bosch, which worried me somewhat at the time. I'm going to take it back and change it for the real thing tomorrow. That way at least I will get them warm feeling about it.

thanks again for your inputs, I'll keep you all posted

Hi guy's,

I took the pattern make AMM back to eurocarparts yesterday. Their policy is not to accept returns on electrical components, however the chap I dealt with was very understanding. He took the crap unit back after I explained the faults it seemed to be causing and took the cost of it off the price of a Bosch unit. When the wife came home I fitted it (thank god this is only a five minute job, I can whistle and it changes it's self now!!), as soon as I started the car it sounded and felt better. My wife then went for a run and when she came home, she said it felt 100 times better.

I am of course the pessamist and will reserve judgement until it's been ok for a few weeks.

Based on this experience, I'd have to say: When it comes to AMM don't buy a cheap pattern make unit (REG is the make I bought or Cardone). Buy the same make as Merc fit, in my case Bosch.

I'll post again if any thing changes

Thanks for all the excellent advice

Craig

I wish they had told me about getting one without a piece of 2.5 inch drainpipe attached to it, are you sure that they are in effect charging the best half of 100 quid for it?

The AMM for my car (2001, C320), I could only get a genuine Bosch one with the "drain pipe". I spoke to Bosch technical sales and they said that was the only way they sell that particular AMM, I ended up paying £164 +vat for the bosch unit. Ouch!!
