Hi, the windows were misted up so I turned up the heating, but the temp stayed the same. Car thermostat changed a few months ago and engine temp is OK. Any ideas?

Is the fan working Brian.

If it is, the the heater change over motor under the brake master cylinder, give it a whack and try it.

Hi Malcolm, yes the fan runs, but just blows normal air temp, even when on full. I will try to give the motor onder the brake cylinder a wack and see if that helps

Many do this every 12 months, and it works fine, it is only a mickey mouse motor costing £35, but a pig to get to. it is the black thing with 5 water pipes
going in.

I may have been looking at the wrong thing, as I couldn't see anything below the master cylinder. I take it that it is not the item in the photo? I will take another look below the MBC.

Found it give it a few taps, but no difference. does it have a fuse anywhere?
How are you supposed to get in there to change/fix it?

Also called a duo valve. There is no fuse for it.
This is the state of mine on removal at MBS. It is indeed in a very inaccessible position against the bulkhead. Colin has a novel way of removing it!

Thank you for that, who is Colin?
The part from MB is only £32.84 so if you can help with a way to remove and fit I may give it a go.

Do you need to drain the system to change the Duo Valve?

I have looked at different threads and you Tube on this subject, but no one mentions draining the coolant, so do you need to?

I just clamp the coolant supply pipe, remove the scuttle and wiper linkage and using a long pick disconnect the pipes. You can then wiggle it out out. Its a good hours work if not a bit more, and a touch fiddly, although I did do one in 45 mins once, dont know how, never got close to that time since....

Sorry Brian, Colin is top dog at MBS Southampton where I have my car serviced. I'd use Steve's method of removal as Colin's involved moving the SBC pump aside and going in through the drivers footwell;) Took him around 20 minutes, then had to do it all again as MB supplied a faulty valve.

Many really have solved them by hitting them quite hard, for the best part most were some years ago when they were newer. If they are as bad as the one Mr Geed had, then could well be past it.

The one thing for sure is that this is your problem, just not easy to get to, and even harder in the SL is in a very small box in front of windscreen.

Well I went to get the new valve, not very far away and on the way back the heater burst into life and came on and also turns off. Probably Malcolm's 'Give it a bash fix'. I'll keep the part as it may still again, which will probably be when it's so cold I won't want to be out there changing it

It's the scientific method:D
Yes and it works, but stopped again a couple of months later and a bash fixed it, but I will change it when it is a nice day
