I have just bought a 2006 ML 320 CDI.

The car has a number of loose electrical connectors in the engine bay which I'm trying to establish what they're for? Can anyone help?

1. The first is this connector that was in the front right wheel arch but I have pulled the cable back into the engine bay.

The only number anywhere on it is F8. The two wires are brown/white stripe and green/white stripe.

2. This connector is in the front right area near the right front headlights and Airmatic compressor. The wires are coloured yellow/blue stripe and brown. It comes off a taped wiring loom running to the front right bumper area and must connect to something in that area.

It's almost impossible to see the 10 digit number is the recess but it could be 163 545 2323.

3. The last connector is to the side of the cabin air intake. It is taped to the loom that feeds the heated washer jets but isn't long enough to reach into the bonnet recess. It has red/white stripe, brown and yellow/white stripe wires attached.

It could reach under the front scuttle panel but hopefully someone will identify what it's for?

Usual diagnostic is to operate all the electrical accessories and see if a non-working one reveals itself...

Follow that up with a fault Code scan to see if any of the sensors or whatever are unplugged. A generic code reader (Bluetooth adapter and Phone App) should be good enough to be getting on with.

Do the Headlamp washers work?

PaulG - thanks for the advice.

I went for a diagnostic scan yesterday but the indy was a bit rushed for time and there are a lot of faults coming up.

We have the same car it would seem and I wonder whether you could look in your engine bay and see if these connectors are apparent on your car?

Yes the headlamp washers work.

Given the location I was wondering if it was some kind of aftermarket airflow sensor that's not there anymore...

I've booked another diagnostic session so hopefully we can get to the bottom of this then.

Had a look at my 164, but unfortunately, mine's not Airmatic (I was scared-off air suspension with 4 years ownweship of an Allroad), so I don't have any wiring in the wheel arches.

The last picture I can't identify either as there's only one connector vaguely similar but that only has 2 wires.

Not much help, sorry. But if you can identify any accessories that don't work, that's a good place to start.

Is the engine running ok, and the Automatic changing when it should?

They look to me to be for accessories or equipment yours doesn't have.
That first one has clearly not been connected for a very long time as it has oil and muck over the orange seal. I'd hazard a guess that the second one could be for an auxilliary heater unit.

Thought I'd update this thread.

The first connector was for the power steering Y10 solenoid connection.

The second connector we think is for original Parktronic as the car has had a new front bumper but the sensors are wired to an aftermarket kit.

The third connector we think is either for diagnostic equipment for Airmatic or is a separate connector for the air strut. Its exactly the same size connector as the one already fitted.
