Hello
I'm new to the forum and MB so please be kind :)

I was hoping someone could help

I have purchased a 2008 S320Cdi all was well for a couple of months then the Radio wouldn't work in the sense that is makes a pulsing sound of the station its on..
after either a few miles or even many miles it comes on and is fine for the rest of the journey.

Sometimes it just comes on and works Just fine it does it when its cold weather, warm weather raining dry or night or day

It's a real lottery if it works or not its about 50/50 sometimes it never comes on for an hour but come on at next start up an hour later.. It's so confusing

It stops the voice on the sat nav and the CD player

I have trawled the web and Amps seem to be an issue..?

I am open to any suggestions or ideas

Kind Regards Ian

Thanks for the feedback

I'm sorry it's difficult to follow I'll try and simplify it

Its not harmon kardon and its a W221 S320 cdi with singe disc CD

So Half the time I start the car the Radio comes on as normal :D

The other Half of the time you can here the radio station in 1 second Pulses every 3 or 4 seconds... :(

If it comes on as normal it stops on until the car is turned off :D

If it comes on with the pulsing issue it does this for anything from 2 mins to to an hour however a couple of times it has not come on just pulses all the time (3hrs)

It effects the radio, sat nav, and cd player which also pulses if selected

There is nothing I can identify that causes the issue I've tried it with all sorts switched on and off

I hope this helps clarify the issue.

Any Suggestions Welcome
Thanks Ian

if its on all sources sounds like the amp?

the Harmon kardon amp frequently plays up, usually very shortly after starting up the car.

what sort of mileage? there's a cooling fan inside which plays up quite often. (I believe not related to the fault above). Not had mine apart but I think it might be something one could swap out for a PC fan or an ebay job.

try and get codes read see if it points you in a certain direction

Hi Thanks for that Botus, I'll try and get the Codes Read

It's not a Harmon kardon

It can come back on after 1 mile up to 30 miles and anywhere in-between

It almost seems like a loose connection, but it never goes off once it's on

It's so strange.

does it do the same on sat nav or with a CD?

the antenna can have issues which wouldn't affect the cd player
the amp affects everything
fibre optics should take out other features

Hi

Yes same on CD & Sat Nav

Could it be the auxiliary battery not holding charge

That would explain it coming on at different times after start up?

Thanks

so its not the radio antenna then...

re the other points, I was going to say no, but then merc eclectics have a mind of their own and low battery voltage sends and already "interesting system" in to a tail spin of unfathomable proportions

AGM batteries do get dry inside and then don't hold much of a charge, spend lots of money on a new one, or "top it up very slightly" and charge it up fully +24 hrs, then get some one to see if anything shows up in a diagnostic check
