I’ve got a strange rumbling/vibration when I reapply power after backing off a little when cruising on the motorway at say 60 or 70 (mostly in gears 6 or 7 but can happen in others) any ideas guys as it’s slightly unnerving
Car has covered 170k

Could be wheel bearing, prop bearing, tyres, engine mounts, gearbox mount, subframe bushes...the list is big. Best thing to do is visit an Indie who can drive the car with you and then check all of the above and more!

Where in the world are you? We may be able to recommend someone for you.

I'd go for prop bearing first , its the cheapest thing to try / eliminate , could also be torque convertor

It’s the prop shaft itself guys ... had a look today while it was up on the ramp at the garage.
Any ideas what I am likely to be paying for a replacement shaft fitted ??

Not interchangeable
The shaft itself up to about £300 but you can pick up used on the bay from about £80- not sure how much to fit

The prop is a solid object, so it must be the UJ on the prop making the noise? Places are about that will replace the bearings, or it can be done by a competent garage.

It is the UJ that has lots of lateral play in it making the noise

was thinking the c63 shaft may be made of stronger stuff but if it’s not the same fit then never mind

In that case, get it sent off to be rebuild, UJ's are pretty standard stuff, needle bearings in cups. Fitted to loads of stuff, that would be my choice.
