2012 W204 C350 CDI
Hi

I am new to this forum and need some help with my 2012 mercedes w204 C350 CDI V6

I am in need of a new engine and am wondering which engine is the same as mine.

Is the 2012 E350 engine the same engine and can it go straight into mine or are the mounts etc different.

Also what about the 642 engine from a 2010 c350. Can this engine be used in mine. As they have 231bhp and mine has 264bhp.

Any help would be appreciated.

You need to match the full engine specification.

So it has to be from a 2012 c class?

I don’t see a problem with it being from an E class or whatever. As long as it’s the 642 lump with the same output, ot should just fit.

Not necessarily.
There are subtle changes to each sub model of engine. For example an m119 engine from an r129.066 is different to one from an r129.067 is different enough to one from an r129.068 that they are not directly compatible without some fiddling yet all are m119s and very close in hp.
The only way to be sure is to match the first 6 numbers of the engine number as this is the engine model and submodel.

Can I just ask what happened to the engine?

There is a loud metal on metal noise coming from the middle of my engine, gets worse when revving. Cant drive the car at all. Taken it to a mercedes specialist and he couldnt find the issue either.

This is the noise

Yes,

Yes, the car had oil and listening to the noise wasnt nice as it also sounded as though something was flapping around inside which has probably caused more damage, my car has been off the road for 4 weeks now.

I would rather just get a new engine but very hard to find a 2012 one.

Need to know if the E350 engine can be put in or does it need to be a c350?

You need to make sure the code number matches so OM642.XXX

It looks like that the bottom of the engine is gone. What was the mialeage on it? You can try to fix the bottom of the engine at a specialist workshop, might be cheaper than getting an used engine. I am little bit surprised to see this on OM642, they usually go bad because of lack of service, bad maintenance - bad oils used, owner fault in use of the car. Are you the first owner of the car?

Empty garage, awaiting new toy :)
As already mentioned
Might be worth dropping the sump and checking the bottom end and the cylinder bores for piston damage before totally scrapping the engine.

Just a thought :)
