Hi guys, was hoping someone may know what this issue is...
I have a 2013 CLA 180 AMG which I purchased second hand in September 2016. Everything was perfect until round 4 months after I purchased it (typically 1 month after the garage warranty ran out) when the central screen which shows the sat nav, music and in car phone system started to 'blink'. 99% of the time it was fine but it would randomly just go blank (audio is unaffected but the visual completely dies for about a second) before coming back on. If the sat nav is being used at the time the sat nav has to reconfigure when the screen comes back on, almost like it has to find itself.
At first as it happened so infrequently it was a niggle but something I could live with but it is becoming a lot more frequent now and on a 5 mile drive a moment ago, the screen must have flicked off around 15-20 times in the space of 2-3 minutes. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when it happens either so I haven't got a clue what it may be?
I am not in the slightest mechanical minded but I had a couple of ideas which were:
1) possibly the car battery is not at its best and if I have the music running, lights on and air con on too, there is too much drain on the battery that the screen which uses the battery too suffers and blanks out if it is not getting enough electricity?
2) There is a faulty/lose wire somewhere. The one reason I thought this was that I noticed the screen blank out initially when I went over a slight bump in the road on the motorway and assumed it must have jogged the lose wire.
Because it is happening more frequently now it is starting to get a lot more annoying so I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before and if so, what it was and how much it is likely to set me back to get fixed.
I have spoken to an unofficial Mercedes garage over the phone (they haven't actually seen it) who said this seems to be a common issue with these central screens on the new Mercedes and it is the screen on its way out and to replace them costs a couple of thousand pounds?!
Thanks in advance for any help!
