Hi all, this is my first post and I could do with some advice; I have a 211CDI (2001) Sprinter which has had problems with its brakes in the past and has had sensors and other bits and bobs changed at the dealers, as I’m not mechanically minded. However I had the ABS light come on (again) a week ago and booked it in and have just been told that it needs a new ABS (pump) hydraulic unit, the quote from the dealer just for the part is £1176.00, I’ve never quibbled in the past over prices Etc… even though I’ve had my suspicions that I’ve been over charged, hoping that my customer loyalty would stand me in good stead, however I need some advice on this very large price.

Edit: Sorry the price in my first post was just for the pump, not fitted and no Vat, I’m all so running on the assumption that the price from Mercman quoted by Television was for a recon? I have phoned them (Mercman) and I’m awaiting a price.

Are you sure it's the pump at fault? Whats the symtoms? We run a large Fleet of sprinters. Never ever fitted one before, but could be a first.

The dealer says its the pump, as for symtoms just the traction and abs light. The bill will be (inc Vat & fitting) over £1600.00 if they are right and not over charging me.:-(

Hi Cbar, the symtons you describe are the same as my sons 311cdi,and if you check on my thread you will see all the advice others have kindly given,I would not be panicked into a new pump untill I had the codes read by an independant who will read the codes and either agree or not with what the dealer says! On "no" account tell the inde what your dealer has said! just ask for the codes to be read "if" he says pump too then start to ring round etc to get the best deal etc. There is no way on gods earth I would pay £1600 out without a second opinion!!!!!!!!! Mike.

Hi Cobe, that is one piece of advice that I will (in fact I have already pulled my Sprinter back) be taking but I would still like to know if the dealer is quoting the right price for the ABS pump as my suspicions have knocked the trust I have in the one dealer that I have always used for my Sprinter.

Hi Cbar,I am afraid I cannot answer that, absolutley no info,I do know from a distant past having owned a 450slc,500sl and a 450sel 6.9 they where never cheap then and judging by the comments on the forum its not changed,I have assumed like my sons 311cdi all the brakes still work fine (abeit no abs) if I have understood that correctly then it is just a case untill you get it sorted out of taking a little extra care driving,if so don't panick ask around for an indie in your area get some answers and move on with a bit of knowledge,I would think if you put your area on the forum i'm sure one of the members will steer you to some one they have had good dealings with,Mike.
