Good independent nearby I've used before but trying to learn and repair myself.

Off to pick up a fuel pressure tester and new fuel filter now.

Where can I hook up the tester on this engine please? Haynes manual focuses on the 2.5 and doesn't give much of map with the 2.2 I've got :s

Crack each fuel connector at the injector and crank. Fuel should come out. Once fuel flows tighten the connection back up. Do you get any reading from the rev counter when cranking?

And fuel on every injector. I guess were going down the road of electrical Gubbins now...
I noticed the cal of one glow plug was loose and clicked that back into place. No change.
Glow plugs were apparently replaced this year in march time. I wouldn't think they're genuine ones and I've probably done 5k mikes since then.
Does the rev counter not giving me any reading point toward something that indicates where the engine is in its rotation cycle?

Did you get chance to look at changing cps ?
Before it died completely on you were there any other issues ?

Apart from the slow starting you mentioned

Not done cps yet, no.

Before it gave out altogether generally it was slow to accelerate when pushed, would chug out a cloud of smoke, dark in colour, when I did push it but otherwise always seemed to run fine. It was always a slow starter...first turn every time, just took that bit longer to fire. Had been months and months like it. So changed the o rings on the fuel pipes.

When it failed...
Week one...run fine.
Week two...turn over wouldn't start, did second time.
Week three...turn but not start

Giinna rest plugs. Shortly

No same again. One glow plug reading 2ohms resistance the others 0.7. Checked its getting supply voltage of about 11 volts to plug through supply cable. So I've got power, fuel...but no fire, that I take it means either immobiliser fault or cps?

should,nt really do it but to prove it can start have you tried to snuff it with a small spray of easy start, small!!

Back to basics....
To start it needs three things:
Air
Fuel
Compression.

We have fuel at the injector (proved by cracking the fuel union).
We have air (nothing really gets in the way of that)
Compression we haven't tested.

So to get fuel in the engine we have the injectors. These are electrically controlled so are we seeing the ECU fire the injector? A simple meter on the connections while cranking would hopefully show this.

If yes then compression is the next step.
If no the issue is electrical and needs diagnosis.

So if its electrical .... yours is a 202 you should be able to read codes using CarSoft or STAR.

Sorry kiwi didn't see your reply there, thanks.

I've been waiting for a CPS to arrive but it hasn't probably owing to the weather conditions. SO...took the old one off and of the three tabs the two on the right I get resistance on of about 3.5 ohms, varying with the temperature. I presum e the third on the left is a common voltage supply.

While there I noticed air in the small fuel pipe from to the fuel filter...I haven't touched the car for a few days so I guess that, after changing the o rings, I'm at the point where I need to change the fuel pipes? I'm guessing their split/splitting in this freezing weather?

Pah

You should try it after 2 seconds and no more of 'Easi-start' ether.
That should clear any air related 'no start' issues and it will run.
If the problem returns, then you haven't eliminated all the air ingress potentials from the o rings, pipes, lines and filter.

Yup used easi start, fired up, ran for fifteen minutes (I didn't dare drive anywhere) stopped it, started again, fantastic. Went to it six hours later turned over no start. Air in pipes again. I could see the air in the fuel pipe going to the fuel filter.

Think its pipes failing or somewhere else?
