350slc 1972 - will not rev up

please can anyone help, my 1972 350 slc will start up and tick over but when i try to rev up it either stalls or if i feather the accelerator the revs start to build up. once i try and hold the acc. still the engine stalls. engine sounds fine could it be electrical or is it fuel please help

Hi Kevin

The fault could be anything. Especially on an old SL like yours. They have the very early electronic ignition and injection system. I would suggest you get it into some body who knows.

On those old mercs you can cause more  problems and expensive ones at that. If you donot no what you are doing.

This sounds like a fault from the manifold pressure sensor. You need to have access to some diagnosis data and a pocket electric tester. Unless, you have access to these I suggest you give the job to an old MB hack. Don't take your car to an MB dealer as they won't have anybody old enough who knows about D-jetronic systems.
