I think there is a current equivalent, it’s that combination of ‘gunmetal grey’ and red leather which looks so good at the upper end of the market

You can have Iridium Silver or Selenite Grey

So:

Hyacinth Red
Porcelain Leather
HK
Airscarf
Electric Wind Deflector
That would be about spot on for me maybe with reversing camera thrown in. Get the feeling the quoted discount may only be available on stock cars so some compromise may be necessary. Carwow have over 100 SL's on their stick list but includes 500/63's.

Reversing camera is nice but it has parking beeps and the visual lights so anyone competent will be able to park it.

100SL's lying about is a lot!!!!

Agreed, get a feeling Mrs A may baulk at anything north of £55k so will need to cull a couple of options. Ambient lighting was on my quote but really isn't essential. Hifi and comfort only essentials really for me.

It's a beauty for sure but looks like air scarf is the only option. A very good plan B though. Thanks very much for all your efforts- keep 'em coming!

Just bought the SL500 after test driving an SL400, my advice to you is don't drive the SL500 or your Mrs will divorce you;-).

Took my son in law for a test drive in it, he has stopped harping on about his brother in laws 911 now lol.

That is a good deal! I think on the current car that the power boot open/close is standard but make sure. Mine is immediate pre-facelift and doesn't have it (not even a button to pop the boot as the R230 did) - and the boot lid is bl** dy heavy!
Monday can I ask, just bought my pre facelift and agree about heavy boot, I have a red button left side but it doesn't seem to do anything can you advise of its function?

An old B-Class.
I'll chime in late here.

My SL is Polar White with Bengal red leather - I get loads of complimenary comments on the combo. Had it since April and done 6000miles - mostly on long trips. Not a single issue at this point.

ABC will allow you to raise the car 2" when getting in and out. I find it most useful for washing it and getting over speed bumps. It also has the cross wind feature, curve tilt and other stuff that all works well. I'm really happy with. I'd ignore all the negative comments about ABC, MB have had quite a few years to iron out all the teething issues they had with earlier systems.

Get all the driver aids - they work. The distronic is great on the open road AND in slow moving traffic steering itself and stop starting.....

Airscarf & electric wind defector - must have. I have the active seats and the massage on a long trip is awesome.

I got the ambient lighting because........well just because ----I'd had it in my SLK 350 and loved it.

I also got the analogue clock....I didn't have one in my SLK and wanted it in the car.. Really nice

I wouldn't waste my money on a fancy stereo - with the roof down the extra money you paid will be worthless and (I'm 65) at our age that level of sound quality is wasted on our ears we just don't hear the higher frequencies.

I didn't get the ventilated seats because of a misprint in the 2017 brochure (it implied that ventilated came with the active seats so I didn't tick the box). To be honest though, although I would have liked them, you will only miss ventilated on really hot days with the roof down (not too many of those around).

I decided not to take the keyless go - easier to steal the car and I'm able to open the boot manually when I need to.

If on a budget - not sure that 10k extra is worth spending to get .6sec better 0-60 from a 500 and almost all the reviews I read & saw said that they they preferred the handling of the 400 because it is (300lbs I think) lighter. I thought long and hard about a V8 but decided on the 400 and am happy about it as the 400's performance is pretty impressive anyway.

It moves the inner cover so that you can check that your luggage will not interfere with the roof. However if the cover cannot deploy, the roof will not open. The boot lid has to be fully open for the red button to work.

I thought it was to lift the roof out of the way when the roof is folded so you can access the boot area.

The 0-60 times in my opinion do not tell the whole story, it is the torque improvement, grunt and ease of driving/overtaking that makes the difference, there is just no beating that V8 effortless drive, I came from a V6 twin turbo Jag, the V8 is so much smoother.
