97 E320 Will not start, immobiliser problem!?

hey my wife accidently threw the car keys and it hit the fence and broke into pieces......i was able to put the flip out key remote back together ,but when i went to start the car it just rolled over and did not start.....green and red lights blinked on the rear veiw.car went to the dealer i ws told i needed a new key .....as the computer was not getting signal to fire ignition.... the cost $770 after looking around online i found something very interesting..a little small black chip....in the photo was missin.so i went back to were the key had hit the fance .and i found the chip.placed it in the remote ...........and the car started half crank.....smiles fa days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...........hope this info helps some1....make sure open the remote and see if the little chip is under the infared led in the remote.cause if it has moved and its to far away from the key switch the car wont start
