A Class, B Class - B180 W246 DEAD BATTERIES [CHANGED] NEW FAULT CODES! ABS HANDBRAKE ESP ENGINE MANAGEMENT *Help?!*

My Car: MERCEDES-BENZ B-CLASS Sports Tourer (W246, W242) B180 (246.242), M270.910 Engine
1.6 Petrol Direct Injection
Mileage 73,000 km (46,000mls)


What happened?
• returned home after 8 months away;
Negative terminal was left on causing car battery to deplete and drain the Starter Battery(A0019828008) and the Auxiliary Battery(A0009829608)
These have been replaced with Brand New MB Batteries from Main Dealer Parts.

I now have the following hard fault codes (*Please ignore - PA06DAA - aware of this issue*) that all seem to link to the Rear End Braking and Traction.
I have no idea what caused this and would like some help if possible.
The car drives - but the EML is now triggered causing the vehicle to drive in Limp Mode due to

The Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Has a Malfunction. Please see the following from the OBD Diagnostics:

1) Diagnostics Shows:

ECM - Engine Control Module (MED40) for Combustion Engine ‘M270’ (N3/10)
[FAULT: 2]

PA06DAA
State: Current
The actuation of the Valve of the Oil pump in the combustion engine has an electrical fault or open circuit

The Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Has a Malfunction

TCM - Transmission Control Moduke (CGSFDKG (N15/13))
[FAULT: 1]

An implausible Left Rear Wheel Speed Signal was Received

EPB - Electric Parking Brake
[FAULT: 1]

Communication with ESP Has a Malfunction

ESP - Electronic Stability Program (N3 0/4)
[FAULT: 1]

State: Current and Historic
Component L6/3 (Left Rear Axle RPM sensor) is Defective or the Wrong Model is Installed

ESP - Electric Power Steering (N68)
[FAULT: 1]

State: Current and Historic
Implausible Data we’re received from control unit “Traction System”. There is an incorrect signal

SG - AWF - Control Unit ‘Distance’ Warning Function (A90)
[FAULT: 1]

C326600
State: Historic
Chassis CAN Bus: CAN Signal “Operating Condition” From Control Unit “Electric Stability Program” is Implausible.

I really hope someone can help, as I’m stranded without a vehicle to drive. I’ve seen a video on YouTube


Not sure if this is the same fix though.

All suggestions welcome.

Did you clear all fault codes before driving the car?

Where was the car stored for the time that you were away?

Possible rust on reluctor rings will give wheel speed faults, these will trigger further fault codes due to poor speed signal and thus disable ESP.

Not too sure about combustion faults, but I'd consider possible fuel contamination settling in the tank.

Wss will throw up more than one fault. Had it 2x try clearing all faults. After recording then. See wot comes back. Then change wss if fault rtns, they are crap. U can try cleaning reluctor ring first. If ur lucky issues will go away.. Mine did

Thanks for replying.

Car was garaged.
Flat surface - totally dry. Hand brake may have been on- can’t recall if honest. Usually leave off and put blocks behind the wheels

Car cracked and turned over - dash warning advised of “Auxiliary Battery Malfunction”

Main starter battery was removed and charged up,

The auxhillary battery was charged with an AGM wet cell charger - reading was too low.

Both batteries got replaced.

The car was driven less than 600 yards before parked back. Felt okay but a little rough on idle.


The car was then parked and red on the OBD. The same faults came up.
Then cleared.

When cleared what came back was what’s above + low voltage.

Then Changed the batteries.
No issue with Auxiliary or low Voltage now - but persistent fault codes coming up are the ones mentioned.

When I clear the fault codes now: eml clears, and then returns when break pedal is applied after disengaging the hand brake. All lights displayed remain (ABS, TRACTION, etc)

So I was thinking this - there is so much debris on the pads - this is why I was thinking stripping the rear pads and callipers, and cleaning them and then putting back. I find it strange both ABS Speed Senors have flagged at the same time.




The combustion issue - definitely from the sensor in the oil pan. The car will get an oil change and I’ll have the sensor replaced. Should resolve this issue for sure.

Wss are rubbish. U will loose esp if u can't clear it I bought one mb and one febi just to see which lasts longest. Got rid of my errors
U can also get low tyre press warning! As the faulty wss gives info that suggests the rolling radius is not std!!!! Modern crxp
