Hi. I've been searching for the intervals for timing belt replacement on a Third generation (W176; 2013–2018) A class 1.5 diesel. The car in question is a late 2014 car with 71k miles on a Mercedes service plan.

As this is a Renault based DCi engine I assume it is belt driven however there appears to be hardly anything documented.

Can anyone help? Thanks

Welcome to the forum,
If you have a cam belt instead of a chain, I'd change it right now.
According to Renault, the belt should be changed at 60k miles or 5 years, whichever is sooner.

https://www.renault.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/maintenance/cambelt.html

If you enter your car details into this site you can see what is expected to be carried out at next service. If there is no cambelt change and it hasn't been done before you owned the car, ask them why.

I have that engine in my Duster and just had the cambelt done. Dacia quote 6 years or 70k miles, whichever is sooner. Mine's only done 20 thousand km's but is 6 years old so I went for the belt and new water pump. The belt, that came off, was like new, as was the water pump but I now have peace of mind for the next 6 years.

It's expensive on the Duster. I copped a bill of just under €600 at my local Merc main dealer, here in Corfu. That was also including various oils and filters to complete the 6 year service.

... The belt, that came off, was like new

I had a belt fail on a Renault Laguna below the recommended miles and years. The belt was shredded where it failed but the rest of the belt looked like new.
If I'd taken it off a week before it failed I'm sure it would have looked perfect all the way around.
A visual inspection is no guarantee of condition.

I am finding this thread very useful.
Please look at the stickers on your car and tell me the engine code used by Mercedes-Benz.

Why? are they rubbish?

They are probably not rubbish but to change the water pump at the same time as you change the cam belt is normal practice and common sense :)

Thank you for all the replies.

The dealership have confirmed to me that the intervals are 100,000 miles or 5 years. It took a while for them to find this out.

Edit: I have now been advised 10 years or 124,000 miles.

Strange, when Renault the engine manufacturer states 60k mile intervals?
I'd get it done now for peace of mind.

That is probably so it is outside the manufactures guarantee , so they don't have to pay for it .

Do we know they make the whole thing or do they take the block and fit it with their own equipment?

Or more to the point, do Mercedes-Benz replace the belt with a chain for longevity.

That's is similar to Ford and VAG recommendations so makes sense.
