Got the car MOTd today and the tester mentioned that the heated mirrors were on, and glass is pretty hot.....(which I suppose it's meant to get to clear ice etc)

IIRC, they only should come on with the heated rear screen? (Which is off).

Anyone had this before? What / where was the culprit?

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the W168 heated mirrors were not linked to the rear screen heater, but rather to the outside temp sensor?

I might be wrong, not even sure where I got this from ...

I've looked on "Loftys" page and it doesn't cover this, but it looks like the OAT sensor is next to the towing eye.
I'll get the icarsoft scanner on it and search for a code tomorrow.
I hope its not going to be a devil to trace.....

Sensor....body module....mirror.....(+loom)

Well I hooked up the icarsoft980 but it didn't find anything on auto, and nothing when I tried a manual search.
Couldn't find any 'body' modules, and the door modules showed no DTCs.

The oat sensor is supplying info to read on dash display, (22.5 deg) - but mirrors still hot. I may just try find a fuse and pull it? (Fuse 16)

The fact that, both mirrors are hot, suggests the problem is not inside the actual mirror housing (I was going to ask if you have folding ones, as wires can break, etc) ...

It's not an elegant solution, but if you're happy to have the mirrors heated only when rear windscreen heater is on, you can use a fuse tap on fuse 31?

Scratch that - just checked, and if you pull fuse 16 you'll lose the mirror adjustment and parktronic.

Mirrors come on automatically either below 7c and/or when the wipers are working ie rain to keep the mirros water free or to allow them to defrost.

You're right. Both of our 168s had warm mirrors if the outside temperature was less than tropical and in Scotland that was EVERY morming.
