Hello All. I was directed to this Forum by a current member who may wish to remain anonymous (see bad start already, cant spell  ) A Little about myself first. I own 2 x W124's. A 260E with 227k on the clock and a E220 Coupe. I used to work for Parcelfarce until I had a major dissagrement with them. Being unemployed at the tender age of 57 was not a joke, so being me, decided to set myself up in Business. As a result of this thought I set up the 124works. I prefer to work on pre 1996 Mercedes, however if its only a service you require then feel free to contact me. I must be honest and point out that I do not do Electronic Diagnostics, not having the suitable equipment. In between jobs I am converting a 190E to run a 3.8 V8. Not easy, but nothing in life is. May I ask the moderators if I would be allowed to post a link to my website. Thanks for reading.

Welcome, many people need help, no matter how small or little, often it is the confidence to get started.

A warm welcome........now, about this gearbox.....!

As a fellow new member, it's good to see the welcome you've had, and I add mine.
You are just the person to answer a query for me. I bought my wife a 300E-24 (W124) Nice car but seems to rev quite high in what I assume is "top gear", the assumption being that it IS a 4 speed auto box. I've noticed some 24V models have a 5 speed. Could I be missing an extra gear? Thanks

Put your VIN number up and I will see what I can find and what your car has.

It is quite possible that you are missing a gear. Check two things for me. First your Transmission fluid and secondly on the right hand wing is a little box with two pneumatic lines comming out of it. This controls the kickdown, it also IIRC, on a 124, 5 speed box controls 5th gear selection. Make sure that the lines are connected and that the rubber connectors have not perrished. Sorry about the delay in posting but I have just picked this thread up.
