I have a c200cdi 05. Auto. 70K
recently after topping up engine oil it went to limp mode on me twice.
i stripped the air intake etc out as I knew I had spilt some oil when filling.
using an engine degreaser i removed all traces of oil and also removed and cleaned the MAF.
It seems okay so far except i am noticing the gears seem to change a lot which i never noticed before. May be me over checking but wondered if anyone had seen this. Service is due in a couple of thousand miles and i am happy to do it earlier.

Welcome to the forum, very hard to know what to say, cleaning your MAF could have livened it up.

If you have not got a good indie then you have MBS on your door step and know the 203 inside out, ring them and ask what they think

A lot of gear swapping could be due to an air leak? Similar symptom to a split intercooler pipe.

Thanks for the responses. A bit more info as well.

Seems to mainly be an issue going from 4th to 5th.
The car sits at around 2500revs at 70mph. I assume this is in 5th gear. If I manually change down it goes to 4th and seems to run smoothly.

What appears to happen is that dropping marginally below 2500 revs the car changes down a gear and up again at a fraction 2500 and over.

As a previous post said there seems to be sensitive to the rpm so on a journey it continually goes up and down from 4th to 5th anywhere around 70mph.

perhaps thats the way it is supposed to be. Just didn't notice it before.

MPG still seems good.

Have you noticed any excessive black smoke on acceleration? Any slight whooshing noise, as if a fan was running, coming from the left-hand dash area?

no black smoke. Last year I had a turbo hose and intercooler replaced when a stone went through the intercooler. I may have a good check around for air leaks in the system or a loose clip or something.
