A140 advice

Hi Mercedes club I need help.
I bought my a class a140 few months ago 2004, mileage 50,000. Recently noticed when accelerating past 3rd (40mph) engine bay makes a very loud roaring sound. Only seems to happen when pressing accelerator, dies back down as car slows. Only way I can describe it... driving at 70mph in 2nd gear?
Ive topped oil up but it wasn't empty.
PROBLEM 2
Not sure if related but there has been a petrol smell for a while round drivers side where fill cap is. I have since noticed small patches of fluid on road from under carraige smells like petrol (looks oily), had a little look under seems to be dripping from behind the metal plate????
Someone please help!

Hi and welcome.
Sounds to me like you need to get it looked at - particularly if it has a fuel leak.

Get this sorted straight away.
It will be leaking from one of the petrol rubber hoses near the fuel filter.

To describe something like "driving at 70mph in 2nd gear" matches the description of slipping clutch.
