Hi All,
I have a 2003 e320 W211.
Just joined this club and looking for some help, as I am new to Mercedes cars and been caught out I think.
However I bought the car on the understanding that the ABS/SBC module had to be married to the car as it is a secondhand part.
Although the car drives and brakes normally, I have ABS/SBC/ESP warning lights on dash.
Is it a new pump?
Or is there a genius out there that can help?

If the replacement pump has the identical part numbers from Bosch and Merc then it should just bleed up using star and the correct method, if one has been fitted which has different numbers then a new pump will be needed.........

ABS/SBC module

Hi thanks for your reply.
I do have the original bosch part numbers, so could locate one, however Mercedes wont star it unless its new. Would you have any idea where I could take it for this to be done, I'm in the south east.

What does star mean?
Will this definitely work?

Use the MB Specialist Finder on the main page to find an independent garage close to you. Or start a post asking for the closest MB Indy to you. They will all have Star which is the MB diagnostic system.

one point is being able to bleed the brakes?
I guess star is used to "open up the ABS unit" so it can be done correctly? if so, Star won't be the only tool to allow that. Any good diagnostics kit should do it.

but checking, the real question is can you re programme other units to work - you could try asking the repair boys which are compatible, (like bba reman)

best thing with these is to send your own one off to be repaired.

Thanks for your reply, my problem is the serial number doesn't match the car.
I have been assured by Mercedes that this is essential I get the correct part. Has been on a good diagnostics machine but wasn't able to find the abs module.
I guess this is what I must do.
Does anybody know where I can purchase a new ABS module part number A004431981204.

Merc don't have a clue about anything.

Other units may well be able to be made to work. Most brands have quite a few that are the same thing but all with different numbers. Often the traction control is built in to these units and this is the bit that's different between the various engines. Later cars ESP will be part of the programming hence the need to get it right. So that's why they need coding to a specific car.

Its a real shame there just doesn't seem to be the level of expertise on Merc that you get with say BMW. If you were on those forums there'd be exactly what works and the software to put on any old laptop to DIY.

I put that number in these reapir places and it came up with nothing!

Ebay is a good place but don't forget there are all designed to fail units so on top of the ebay price you need to factor a top up with the fix for life repair at circa £200

Where's the original bit ?

car breakers are getting act together these days

How sure are you its been exchanged ?

maybe its just hit the designed to fail age and you can't communicate cost the rusty wire from the module plug to the board did exactly what its supposed to do - when this happens of course the car can't "see" the module merc / bosch turn it off !!!
