The 360 camera is indeed a better tool i think (I just don’t have it :()
My son had it on his x6 and also has it on his current Q7 and I agree, I'd rather have that - they are big vehicles and he can zip in and out of parking space!

We used the park assist when we first got our car just to see how it worked, was a bit of fun but we've not used it since. I drive to the park every day to walk Daisy the dog and the P is always coming up on the dash to let me know I can use the park assist, but I've not once been tempted. I love the reversing cameras though, no idea if ours are 360 ones, but probably not, but they do help you make sure you are parked close to the kerb and not on it. I am always pleasantly surprised at how my parking has improved since I've been driving more, I think Keith is also pleased that I have only kerbed one alloy so far :D

if they are 360, it is like looking down on your car from above it.

@ littlebrooklyn - when I was a kid my mother had an Austin Healey Sprite. Never worked out why my dad bought it as they had 4 kids......although back in the 60's parents did not run their kids everywhere - we used public transport or our bicycles.

Did your mum ever take you out in the car? I can't even remember seeing all those cars on the road when I was a kid, I think my parents had a Ford Anglia or something boring like that. Much as I can see why people enjoy restoring and going out in old classic cars I do feel they aren't really suited to today's roads. I find it quite scary being so low to the road, having no power steering or even seatbelts

I had a Spridget for years.
A big go kart, it was - with square wheels. Fantastic fun, but so basic.
Mine was a lightweight, with no boot lid. The dog loved crawling into the dark boot space behind the seats - or maybe he hid because he was just petrified.
I swapped it for a covertible Mini (Alex Issigonis style, not the later horrors).

Yep but, that was a long time ago. I think my dad traded that for a racing green Mini Cooper S. I can imagine the Sprite being a bit unnerving, we have got so used to the security of modern cars. My first car was a 1967 Morris Mini - speedo in the middle and the starter button on the floor etc and here we are discussing the merits of cars that can park and steer themselves!

My first car was a 1966 mini, it was an MOT failure, so not sure how my father acquired it for me as it had so many things wrong with it. When you put your foot on the brake it would pull to one side, smoke used to come out of the radio and one day I was driving along and the subframe fell out of the bottom, severing the brake pipe, such fun :shock::shock:

My first three cars were minis. A 1962 Mini Traveller followed by A 1965 1275 Cooper S followed by 1968 Mini 1000 van (still had the Cooper S as well when I bought the van).
My dad was absolutely against me buying the Cooper S (I was only 17!) but I won out in the end. That car was modified over the years with a straight cut close ratio gearbox, ported big valve head, very lumpy camshaft and a big 45 DCOE Weber carb to provide the breathing. When I say the cam was lumpy it was very lumpy... 300 degrees duration on both inlet and exhaust meant it didn't 'come on cam' till 4000rpm at which point all hell broke loose. Made it very challenging to commute in (hence the van). I have very fond memories of that car...

A good mate of mine had a Reliant Regal & four of us went out in it on a road run. Plastic car, no seat belts & a wheel missing ...... now that was very scary if you sat & thought about it  :D:D

I had a Vauxhall Viva HB that had a very tiny steering wheel fitted by the previous owner, that they changed back to an original one before I collected the car. I was going down a very steep hill with a tight right hander at the bottom when the steering wheel came off in my hand!! I managed to stop.

My brother had an Austen 1100 that had been added to to look like the 1300GT version. I borrowed it to go get some parts for the Viva when I changed down to 2nd to take a hairpin on Winter Hill, when the gear lever came out of the box.

In the Viva a 'mate' would never wear a seat belt. The clip on the front passenger seat wasn't always positively locking, moreso if I didn't lock it knowing that 'mate' was scrounging a lift. So off we got down an empty road when suddenly I 'saw' something in the road that required an emergency stop. Said 'mate' sans seatbelt was propelled forward hitting his forehead on the windscreen on the way down banged his chin hard on the dash. Strangely thereafter he always buckled up.

I had a mini pick up in black & white that looked like a panda. I took the rubber cones out of the suspension to make it sit lower, c/w maglite wheels i swapped the Viva for. It used to slide well, especially after I put a 1275GT engine and gearbox in that required a hole cutting in the floor to fit the gear lever.

Happy, carefree days :):)
