Just got back from kwik fit after attempting to regas aircon.
They said it was indeed empty of gas. They have filled it and can't find any leaks.
However the aircon still doesn't work. Nothing happens when you turn it on apparently.
They've suggested taking it to an aircon specialist.
Can anyone recommend a good place to take it in the north west?

Some one said that Merc's aircon will need re-setting after it's failed on low pressure
Mastertech Assist regassed my Smart's a/c before I fell out with them ..... they're only up the road from you.
Get a price first though & what hours they'll charge you ..... MB might be less

Did they vacuum test it from empty or did they just add R134a? Had exactly the same thing with my old W203.. someone else removed the existing gas.. vacuum tested the system then refilled it... worked perfectly.

They said it's fully automated. Machine does it all, no room for operator error. Pulls out whatever is in there. Creates a vacuum to check for leaks and if it detects none it fills with oil and refrigerant. He reckons it did the whole process and when they went to check the temp found it doesn't work. He reckons the compressor is kicking in.

He did also say the machine pulled next to nothing out. It was empty.

Gonna have to get it to a specialist. Does sound like it needs to go on star first. See if it needs resetting.

I've ordered icarsoft to reset the aircon fault code. To be fair, I would have got one bought eventually anyway, its just pulled that purchase forward. Wait and see if the aircon is indeed showing a fault code. Fingers crossed.

mercedes benz E220 cdi estate W211 facelift 2008. Mercedes SL320 R129 1996.
I Have the same issue on another thread I have a w211 E220 cdi
I have had the aircon fully serviced vacuumed and re-gassed (Half hour connected to HP and LP Valves) and it is not blowing cold. I was told to get it put on diagnostics so went to mercedes service which showed 2 fault codes 9464 blower regulator under voltage, and code 9210 supply voltage to control unit is too low. I was told these not relevant and were cleared. The compressor does not seem to be engaging but diagnostics show it is.

Tomorrow having compressor checked. They said they are going to wire it direct to see does it engage. I will let you know if outcome can help you

Dont know if this will help or not,but when I first got my cl 500 the red ec light was on which means aircon at fault.I looked through its history to see that the previous owner had spent a lot of money on
it,but still not working.Looked on youtube and there is a sequence to reset it using the buttons on the dashboard, followed them and bingo,it reset itself and has been fine ever since.Different car I know, but wondered if there was a similar sequence to reset yours?Regards,Henry

Icarsoft should be here tomorrow. Hoping it reveals a fault code that needs resetting.

It can lock a low pressure fault code, but usually Kwik fit dont regas them properly.

You need to vac the system for a good half hour, oil it and put a leak test dye in it. Usually its the condensers that rot/fracture on the bottom.

Icarsoft showed a low refrigerant pressure code. Cleared it and still no joy. Trying to find some info on different bits. When I turn aircon on the revs don't change. The radiator fan doesn't come on. Also the refrigerant pressure shows as 1.7 bar on icarsoft, not sure what it should actually be . Anyone shed any light...?

I am suspecting that the system is still shut down due to low pressure. Going to try having it gassed again now the codes have been cleared. If that doesn't work it's gonna get thrown at a specialist.

Well, i popped in halfords on the way home and bought the aircon recharge kit. Charged it up and hey presto, working air con.
Like a fridge in the car now. Happy bunny.
Looks like it was just the aircon fault code for low refrigerant was stopping it starting up and hence couldn't refill it.
Good info for anyone doing a search in the future.

I'm having the same issue with my 2002 c180 estate. EC light is on constantly, & won't switch off. Took the car to Kwik fit twice In a day to get the a/c tested, when they couldn't fix it I went into Halfords & bought a tin of STP a/c top up. When I put it on the low pressure valve the dial went into the warning side of the gauge. Did this happen to you? Really stuck with knowing what else to do to fix it??!

The instructions on the bottle said only connect/disconnect with engine off but take reading with engine running.
That's from memory though.
