The instructions on the bottle said only connect/disconnect with engine off but take reading with engine running.
That's from memory though.
Many thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try tomorrow afternoon. I've got a RAC code reader, & plugged it in under the dash, cleared a fault it found. Will try attaching the STP recharge kit while the engine is running, & see what it shows, as I previously said when I connected it to the low pressure the gauge went right around to the 'warning' area on the dial. I was a little worried when I took it back to Kwik for the second time, & they didn't even have a digital thermometer to measure the temp coming out of the vents! Will update you on tomorrow's findings

Connect with engine off. Start engine and then check gauge. That's how I remember it. Check first by reading the bottle. Pretty sure it said never connect or disconnect with engine running.

Well, I plugged the olde RAC code reader into the merc, & it will not even find any a/c faults. Will have to get a code reader that's more advanced than the one I have currently, so EC light is still constantly on I'm guessing you can pick these icarsoft readers up on eBay? Here we go again....

That's exactly what I did mate. Bought a icarsoft i980 off eBay. Was gonna spend on the mb2, but got the i980 at about half the price. Cleared the a/c fault code and allowed the aircon to refill as it should. It won't refill without the compressor running and the fault code prevented this.

I know it's not exactly about air con directly. It my w245 has re circ (like every other car) but when it's been on a few minutes it automatically turns itself off. Every other car I've had it just stays on. Is this supposed to happen or no

Followed your advice to the letter, and brought a icarsoft i980, now have ice cold a/c again. Many thanks for the helpful advice (top man ) If anyone sees a blue c class estate driving around Suffolk, and the drivers shivering with a big stupid smile on his face, that's me!!!

Excellent! And you now have a code reader to guide you the next time your car plays up ;)

I already have 3 generic type code readers, it's nice to have a good Mercedes specific reader now though.

It was one of those situations where you think "£90 for a code reader is a lot", after the 2nd use though it's paid for itself.

Some pics from the live data stream now that my aircon is working properly.
This should help anyone who has similar issues and plugs icarsoft i980 into their car. I did this and didn't know how far away my results actually were.

Well..... my aircon has given up again. Pressure is back down to 9.6 bar.
There must be a very small leak somewhere. When it was regassed i was told if the machine detects a leak it will not continue. No leak detected and the regas worked. Gonna have to get it booked in with a proper aircon engineer now for fault finding.

Hi guys - sorry to bump a topic that has been done to death but I've got air con issues too:

I sent the car to be regassed and it was and the guy is a very reputable person in the local area so if he says it's been done it's been done. All was going great till about a day or so ago was really enjoying the nice cool air coming out of the vent as you do but I think Friday just gone it started making a wishing sound almost like the sound you used to get when you left the gas on for the Bunsen burner at school only it sounds like it's behind the glove box/ centre controls area.

The garage said there wasn't a leak would it be worth seeing merc and having them put it on a test bench and what costs would I be looking at?

TIA

Turned out to be condenser unit all rotten at the bottom - the pressure or regassing blew a hole through the weakest of the rot
