Post your vin. It may be that the steering angle sensor is the whole module in the steering wheel and in that case, its not a bad guess to replace it second hand.

Make sure if buying second hand, that they do not allow the center to spin against the outside when removed.

Update..

Second hand steering angle sensor didn’t work/cure the issue. Have resorted to leaving with a Mercedes Independant who is confident he’ll sort it

I ordered strut from https://aerosus.co.uk/mercedes/s-class/w221/mercedes-s-class-w221-front-air-strut-left-or-right.html

It came on Tuesday and a relatively ealy removal and fit job last night, took 90mins on the driveway (including trip to Halfords for a ball joint splitter) All good and 2yr part warranty.

Now just waiting on part to arrive from Germany for the steering, it’s the opposite part to the steering angle sensor £270+vat from merc, the independant guy quoted £475 all fitted & coded so that should be that next week.. then wait and see what’s next
In fact I know I want to do discs and pads soon..

doing disc and pads will be a walk in the park after this.
UNLESS
Like me , had issues getting calliper bolts out (been loctited) very tight and need about 20 grunt pressure.
Disc retaining screws required use of a hand held impact driver.
and oh yes, the inboard brake shoes fell apart !!!!!!!

Just to advise, it was the opposite part to the steering angle sensor that communicates with it.. that was £475 fitted, unfortunately didn’t end there... as I had been using it, the power steering pump had burnt out... £1100 fitted, put that on top of the £395 just spent on the shock, £173 they charged for gearbox service, £200 I paid not long ago for full service... ££££££ money pit... drives superb again now now.. how long for?

Aha so the steering column module.

That's a shame but at least it's sorted.

The thing to remember though- and hating to burst your bubble- is that it's an £85k car with the running costs of an £85k car. Believe me, I know all about this. You need to put a sensible amount away as you'll just not be able to get away from some serious cost items during your ownership.

Mate of mine keeps going on about buying an old Ferrari, and I have to point this out for the same reasons (except the running costs will be wayyyy higher!)

I think it's just been thrashed to Italy and back at intergalactic speeds
And yet in the last week of driving to work and back, it's returning 27.1mpg doing 70-75mph on motorways @ A roads.

That prolonged high speed period just cleared some soot out of the exhaust boxes :D
