Hi, all

I have a 2008 facelift SL350, I have a problem with the air con (it stopped working today) & I need to try to prove what date the problem with the air con started, if I put the car on a Star machine will the star machine be able to "see" the date the air con went in to fault code when the air con lost all the gas from the system?

Thanks in advance

Yes on STAR all the things can be checked including the gas in the system.

thanks for the info

I know the STAR machine can read and reset air con fault codes, but what I need to know is will it show what the DATE was when the fault code occurred?

It does not give dates at all, just the code for any fault.

It will give mileage at first fault and last occurrence but no date.

Yeah I wondered about this myself too... and I find it strange that it does not store a date, especially not on cars that have GPS and thus know the date automatically. Do you reckon this has to do with potential privacy implications? Surely it would be useful to be able to put a time to when a fault occurs...?

to store dates and times would require a larger memory in each CU. this would put the price up and who would be happy paying more?

Well... by now memory is SO cheap that this is hardly an argument. Perhaps in the nineties this applied... but even high-end redundant temperature-extreme resistant memory is no more than $100 for 16GB... on an MB I doubt this would make much of a dent. No I think it really does have to do with the legal team instructing them it is a potential privacy hazard in which Daimler simply wants no part.

You might be right but I would have thought a time stamp would be useful for both the police and insurance companies.
No more "Oh the warning light has only just come on, officer". Or "The brakes were working perfectly before the accident".

Some show hours since fault depending on control unit being read. Here's one with mileage.

Are thank you,,, I have been sitting here looking at my printed out list of codes and not on that list.

That will be handy for the future when I use STAR.:D
