Simon,
Do a search on this forum for "ATF level",it is covered in previous threads.
Always do a search first as it saves time and duplication of questions, if you then need further info.ask your question.
Cheers Geo.

Simon,
Dipstick location is at offside rear of the engine , there is a red cap fitted with a tamperproof clip, the clip will break when you remove the cap.
If you do not have a dipstick you will need to order one from the MB dealer.

Simon,

You should have a red stopper on the end of a tube visible in the engine bay up against the bulkhead. Unclip the stopper and withdraw the dip stick. Clean and test the level, which should be between the two marks (hi/lo) for the relevant temp. Do this when the trans is warm after a reasonable trip and use the higher of the two temp zones. Filling of the trans with TQD is via the dipstick tube - DO NOT OVERFILL!

To make life easy on auto trans fills I use an old pvc mastic/silicone tube with the nozzle still attached - obviously clean it out (silicone tubes are easy once the silicone is set) and remove the plunger. Careful if you use air to blow the plunger out it can come out like a rocket! I know, it hurts!

As Clive says, but also make sure to have the gear lever in 'P' to do the dip.

Just reading this thread wit interest, is it a simple case of topping up when low, also what if you dont know the brand of fluid, is it ok to add any other to top up!

Also on A C180 what is the procedure to change the fluid...is it recomended or if alls well leave well alone?

Sorry for hi jacking thread but think the mixing of fluids is relevant tothis also.

Cheers
