When stopping at lights or junctions the car has a habit of not driving when pressing the accelerator. The revs increase but the auto gearbox does mot appear to engage - fairly quikly the fault resolves itself and the car drive again. This is becoming more frequent - any views

As Malcolm says - and do it soon - auto boxes do not like being run with low fluid. Whilst you are checking it take a look at the colour of the existing fluid and if it is not a nice clear red colour then it needs changing along with the filter. You also need to find where the leak is as an auto box does not "use" oil [fluid] in the same way that it may be acceptable for an engine to use oil. If you do not find the leak then the symptoms will re-appear. It need not be an expensive repair - sometimes the pipes between the gearbox and the rad rust and spring a small leak and over time the gearbox loses the fluid - it should be about £100 all in to fix that if it is the problem.

Get someone who knows what they are doing to do the work for you - the last thing you need is an amateur messing with your auto box.
