Yesterday stuck in traffic, car in Park, then when I tried to put in Drive the lever would not move.

Took key out, put key in, foot on brake, restarted, lever would not move.

REPEATED dozens of times.

Mobiled the Merc rescue service, very helpful, would ring me back.

Try again, IT WORKS.

Anyone with a similar experience?

A possible thought is that as you have to have your foot on the brake pedal to get the lever out of park, you may have a faulty brake light switch thats not always working.

Therefore the car may not realise you are pressing the B/ pedal thus preventing it from unlocking the gear lever.

Thanks Tony for raising the caution.

I would not know how to change the switch, so would have to rely on the garage.

Very sorry for the delay in replying.

The dealer could not find any reason for the problem.

He did show me how it could be released by pushing a pencil into gearlever housing. Very high tech !!
