Can I buy a plug and play aux lead for my W203? Am I right in thinking there is a connection under the sill plate on the passenger side, and that the leads are readily available on ebay?

Many thanks

That's an audio 20 unit. I'd suggest checking under your carpet to see if the cabling is there as it's not on every w203.

I bought an aux in cable which is designed to fit at the rear of the audio 20 unit but it didn't work on mine. You're welcome to have that lead (I can post pics later) for the postage cost if you want?

So do some have the plug on the radio and some under the carpet, yes I would be willing to give a try :)

My understanding is that some have the wiring under the carpet which would mean that you could buy the official Mercedes lead which goes from under the carpet and into the glovebox. Mine didn't have it under the carpet though and it didn't work at the rear of the audio 20 either so you should continue researching it I'd say.

In the end I gave up and got a Parrot unit which does everything I need and more.

The lead socket in the loom is not under the carpet. It is within the cill, and right at the bottom.

On the passenger side, pull up the plastic cill covering. It goes back quite easily. You will then find a gap between two fairly rigid plastic extrusions where you can see the loom running at the bottom. Unless you wish to lose skin off your hands :), prise them apart, and then hold them apart using something like a piece of 2" x 1". The socket (if fitted) will be deep down under the main loom and close to the A pillar.

It is also worth removing the internal trim from the pillar to make the job easier. From memory, it is only one Torx screw and will need to be removed to route the cable.

I suppose one way of establishing whether or not there is likely to be a loom connection, is to look carefully at the Glove Box. There should be a knock-out on the pillar side near the top. The fabric will be partially pre-cut and, if you take off the end capping of the dash assembly - it just pulls off, you can then see the 'other side' of the knock-out in the plastic.

As mentioned, I think that the only available connector is the official Merc part at circa £25. It has been mentioned on here many times but would take a lot of searching to find the Part No.

That item will not connect to the MB loom, however, it may connect to the Audio 20 unit but, the instructions for removing the actual Audio 20 unit looks like a day's job in itself.:( From memory the loom connection is a 4 pin socket with three wires connected and at the other end, a socket as opposed to a plug, which fits the knock-out in the Glove Box.

I suppose.........to identify which lead in the MB socket goes to what (in the Audio 20), Set the Audio 20 to Aux, and then with a thin probe, touch each contact in turn. The 'static' in the one's body should be enough to create a 'hum' in the speakers, left and right, and the one that doesn't, is the Earth/Neutral.

Frankly, I can't be arsed to do it because I do so little mileage that having an AUX ability isn't something that I would miss.
