Hi,
I own a C Class C200 which is approaching a B service at 34,000 mile.
Fed up with being ripped off by my local MB dealer does anyone know a Independent garage in the North London/Hertfordshire area who I can trust not to rip me off?

Independent service

I used a garage in Luton (Harpenden Auto services) - cost £276 for B service. All ok except they made a minor mistake of filling incorrect amount of oil which they apologised and siphoned out. also there is a mercedes service in Hatfield road nr. St. Albans (independent).

Hapenden Auto Services

I recently used Hapenden Auto Services. When I got the car back the geometrics and steering wheel were all out of line and the steering was pulling to the left (perfect when it went in to them).

MB said that the track rods had probably been played with when they shouldn't have been  and advised a realignment at anything up to 3hrs labour!

Hapenden Auto Services promised to call me back, but I still haven't heard anything after a week. They obviously don't want to correct their errors!

I therefore wouldn't recommend them to anyone!

Service B is £345 and Service A £225 at MB Direct in Birmingham. Don't know if that's cheap.

Too far for you but maybe other MB Direct offer same fixed price deals?

You could do worse than try George Fraser in Wembley (opposite Alperton tube station). I used him for years servicing my old E280, but my current "wheels" is too new for me to use an independent yet.

Hi all

Anyone have any experience of these people for servicing?

http://www.prestigecarservicing.com/carservicing.php?make=mercedes

My local Merc dealer has quoted me £883.67 for a B service on my '99 280 SL. My last service was an A in April 06 at 51000 miles since when I have done only 8k miles.

I gather the figure also includes something from an ESS sheet but they have told me the detail yet! I am also puzzled that I have an offer (quote MBW01) from them that says "30% towards your next service" expiring 31/12/07 but the cost has only reduced from £954.17 and I am seeking an explanation from them. Anyone else used this offer?

As always, any advice/comment appreciated.

Hi,
Is that price just for the service?
My 1999 C43 had a Main Dealer "B" Service in Febuary/March this year including all parts, £428.04 (8 litres Mobil 1, oil filter, screen wash, Pollen Filter, key fob batteries and a bulb). Though a set of Spark plugs probably would of put the price up some what.
I would expect yours to be a similar price.

I would check what they intend to do for that amount. It's over double what the service cost is so I'd imagine there is something expensive in addition.
Most dealers now offer discounts to owners of cars over 3 years old. Mine knocks 30% off and the car is only just over 3. That means a B service is around £325.

As for that firm - The reviews all seem good http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews136792.html - suspiciously so.....

I've never heard of them and they don't say where their depot is in my area, only that they have one - I find this dodgy too. I've never heard of them - are they a franchise and if so, who is actually working on our cars? Personally I'd rather build up a relationship with a proper local indie specialist, who'll be there for me when I have a problem. Any muppet can change the oil (even me!). I want someone who can sort out more complex MB specific issues.

I have asked for details of all the work they are doing. My main gripe is that the flyer has the headline "30% towards your next service" and now they are telling me that this is not in addition to what you already receive under the ThreePlus scheme but a labour discount against their standard labour rates. I think it is a little misleading as I would have received the 20% labour discount on the ThreePlus scheme so it is not true to say that I am getting 30% towards my next service - or am I being picky?

Anyone else used this offer?

I must be getting old and grumpy!

I have now received the quote which includes 1 3/4 hours labour for changing the sparkplugs on top of 2 1/2 hours labour for the basic B service.

Should I query this or is this part and parcel of owning a Merc?

sorry to jump in here,,,,,
am following it avidly, but as I'm in Cornwall, the mentioned places are bit out of my way.

My first service is due, so i'm asking the same questions,,, but for my area.

In the meantime: I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to bring up the Service 'code' number on my E220 CDI (211) 2007 please ?

I'm assuming that it will be 'A', as it's the first one,,,, but I still want to know how to access the codes.

thanks for letting me pop in here.
