Is there ANY profession that doesn't have its fair share of "shysters" - anyone?

It maybe that the banking industry has more opportunity for corruption and the figures are bigger and therefore more newsworthy :)

Very good point, Bankers by the nature of their jobs are generally very bright successful and deal with large volumes of money so win or lose its headlines.

I would go even further and say the amount of criminal behaviour is a relatively small percentage.

Still the ones that do fall down should not be able to hand their debts to the poor British peasant worker as they have been allowed to.

you sure about their honesty

To be truthful, I worry about everyones honesty with a £150bn "black economy" in the UK. But I guess it's ok for people to pay their supplier in "cash" as it's only a small fraud and they're unlikely to get caught - but still dishonest by the way, just not bankers dishonest. :)

Really? http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/20-global-banks-have-paid-235bn-fines-since-2008-financial-crisis-1502794

We have FX fiddlers HSBC https://www.ft.com/content/9c44fe7a-4e97-11e6-8172-e39ecd3b86fc who now prey on the poor to recover some of their losses after huge fines. And the brilliant RBS who managed to show a £2billion loss, yet award their CE a £3.8million pay deal and £2.6m in shares last year. Pigs at the trough doesn't come close IMO.

Criminality v Morality methinks.

Plus the fact that some people just "earn" a lot of money.

The Socialism answer has proved unacceptable so far.

Mr Wales will put us straight :)

The Bank got off lightly they took on someone who was daft enough to overlook her brothers occupation, sounds like she shouldn't be in charge of the Hob Knobs .

To be honest she's had it either way supreme arrogance or stupidity both seem like reasons for her to go.

Tesco - Earwig go again!

Same old...

I owned up and told the judge "Yes, I did it, I lied and cheated and falsified the accounts so that we would all get our bonuses and investors would plough in some more money... and he said sternly "for this kind of crime, a jail sentence is the most likely result"....

But then I remembered I was one of the "untouchables" just like a [STRIKE]w[/STRIKE] (err sorry, I mean banker) and I started "negotiating" a way for the company to "agree to pay a huge fine while I get off scot free!

- Who's a clever boy then?

BOE - LIBOR

Is this the latest "we're all in this together" scandal?

Libor: Bank of England implicated in secret recording

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-39548313

This says that BBC Panorama has uncovered a recording implicating the Bank of England in Libor rigging.

Watch this space, I suppose!

And more....

- Is there no end to this stuff?

City regulators investigate Barclays boss Jes Staley
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-39551691

Apparently, he tried to discover who wrote a whistleblowing letter to the bank. It says: He has apologised to the board, which has accepted his apology and said that Mr Staley "continues to have the board's unanimous confidence".

- Yeah, right...

If you vote Conservative you get a party part funded by Bankers who want something for that money.

The other parties report to their respective paymasters, its part of the sewage that surrounds our political system.

S class
You also get massive cuts in Education and NHS and any government funded services, whilst they tell you money is increasing, it is, but by a whole lot less than it should.

The saga continues!

Lloyds to compensate fraud victims with 100 million pound scheme

http://uk.reuters.com/business/personalFinance

Unfortunately many of the victimised businesses went into liquidation, resulting in job losses and financial hardship as a result of the scam for which a number of people were sent to prison for a total of 47-and-a-half years.

Was it bankers sent to prison or the "victims"? (probably should read the link , but it's been a busy day :))
