Benz airfilters

Just bought some original airfilters and noticed one of them has a black plastic restriction moulded into it. I'm tempted to remove it; does anyone know why it should be there?

Yes, factory filter in there and yes to vin number checked. Why?

well, is it similar with that moulding you refer to ?

design of cars and components are constantly evolving, even for out of production cars, and the part numbers often get superceeded.

The new (if altered design) will be there for a purpose, and more likely an improvement.

So, unless you know better than Merc I would install it and leave well alone.
