Is the dealer the only place to get genuine filters or can you get them elsewhere cheaper? I want air, fuel, oil and pollen filters for my 54 S320CDI. TBH I don't know how much I could save as I haven't even asked the dealer how much they are!

Get a price from your local dealer. Also check ebay, quite a few dealers do genuine service kits with all the filters you need for a discounted price. You can compare to ECP with forum discount and then decide what to get.

may as well go dealer, i got everything on mine for a b service and ATF change all in all patten parts would have only made the whole lot about £20 cheeper, i guess the old saying comes into play here "pay your money and take your chances"

I do want to use genuine as when I purchased the car it had genuine on and I had it serviced with non-genuine filters and it has always seemed like it needed cranking over longer to start it (I think it could be down to the fuel filter TBH). It only really needs the minor service but for what extra it will cost I am going to have a full service on it.

Agreed on the genuine stance, really not much cheaper elsewhere! Filters for mine were very cheap, £10 for oil, less than £20 for air same for pollen. And you know they are genuine, makes sense imho:D

filters

as TV always use merc oil filters they fit snug. I have bought pattern pollen filters , the dont fit properly and arent carbon filters! just paper, as an asthma sufferer i know the difference ,you might get away with the air filter , buying say a mahle off opie oils but while you are at mercs getting a bit of discount( say trade) is it worth the aggro!

Well I have finally managed to call Mercedes and for what I needed, air, fuel, oil and pollen filters plus wiper blades they were £10 more than gsf and £10 less than ecp so really pleased!

Plus the 24 month guarantee you get on genuine parts.... piece of mind is worth that little extra.

I also found out the other day that if a genuine part fails not only do they replace it FOC but that it includes labour too, even if you only bought the part and fitted it yourself.

Simplest thing to do is remove the part- find out who makes it =the OEM and buy that - if its cheaper. Sure you can buy the Mercedes branded part from your dealer and in many cases it will a similar price or possibly even slightly cheaper than OEM, but reflect on the fact that its MB price probably reflects the competition that the aftermarket OEM stuff provides. Buy an MB part that has no aftermarket equivalent and you will get an idea the mark up to expect on routine parts without the availability of aftermarket parts to keep them honest!
