Hi Folks , thinking of taking the plunge and buying a Dashcamera for each car (2) . I only want a simple forward facing camera , I'm not interested in recording me driving or recording driving footage for watching later. Just the security of having a witness to whatever may happen . Neither am I interested in enabling gps for speed or route info .
I like the design of the Blackvue and it looks like it would sit behind the mirror nicely . I know the Mobius is very small but it looks like I need to buy another bracket and a SD card on top of the lower price of £75 ish quid against the Blackvue £117 .
I have been quoted about £60-70 by local auto electrician to fit each camera , but I've got time to study up on hardwiring so I will probably tackle this myself .
Any views , positive or negative on either camera or hardwiring as a DIY job would be appreciated .

I have the Möbius set and massively impressed with them. Just under £300 front & rear fitted from carcamerashop.co.uk

Quite alright chap. I'm not overly happy with the neatness of the installation but the cameras are brill.

What were the neatness issues Craig? Presumably not tucked in the trim enough or...?
I'm still 'on the fence' about dashcams and I can't be bothered pulling my car apart- so if I was going to get them, I'd have installation, so it'd need to be right...

The daft thing for me is that the micro USB cables coming out of the camera have a right angled connector- that points downwards when it plugs in. So rather than having a neat cable install that goes straight up under the interior mirror trim there is a 180 degree loop that points down before going back up.

SWMBO thinks it's just me being fussy, but then she might be right!

Sort of thing I meant Craig, I'd focus on that every time I got in the car- I might forget about it...Sub on the other hand

I haven't used the car enough to get irked yet... but it's the sort of thing that I know would do!

You could buy a short USB flylead that has the connector angled the right way. I have a mobius in my ML and i have the USB with a right angled connector for neatnes.

That's the plan. What's irritated me beyond belief is that such a thing wasn't fitted to start with.

Mine's an angled connector, but the cable goes straight up from the camera which means there's less than an inch of cable on show. But you've to look for it as the camera is hidden behind the interior mirror. IRCC my camera knows which way us 'up' so if you fitted it so the cable was going upwards then the camera would know to flip the image. I had a play with the position in the screen before I stuck it to the screen.

I would suggest you all look at a you Tube site called "Techmoan"

Maybe a large tree air freshener could hang off the connector so you can't see it :D

Just put my big boy pants on and ordered 2 Blackvue DR450 at £117 each . Now I have to study auto electrics and cable routing to hardwire them :)

The problem wasn't with the cameras but the ****** installer. He used angled connectors not straight ones. I was at work, SWMBO at home and she believed his sob story about it being a really hard job.
