Her family maintains she was on holiday in a country where she has dual nationality...Boris is the one suggesting she was teaching, not her family.

Yes, my apologies, I did confuse and somehow merge the two stories, must be my age etc. But then it seems that BoJo and Gove having reignited their bromance didn't do so much better representing officialdom (Gove got a lot of stick today because when asked what Mrs Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was doing in Iran he said he "had no idea").

If Bumbling Boris didn't charge in like a bull at everything it could probably have been sorted out diplomatically. Remember the approach to the Spanish - diplomatic phraseology along the lines of "muck about with us and you won't be selling us all those millions of bottles of Prosecco!" - which could easily have been put so differently (as one would expect a Foreign Secretary to do) e.g.: "Brit's love it and we hope to continue being able to trade freely so we need your support"

Dave has mixed up two different eposides, one is being held in Iran and has been for about 8 months or so. Boris commented on her reason for being there, and got her sentence doubled.... she said she was on holiday visiting her native country.
The other girl flew to Egypt and took with her 300 tramadol tablets which are illegal in Egypt for her no good boyfriend, who has a sore back and will want to come here and get on DLA.. The Egyptians arrested her for drug smuggling.. she didn't think that tramadol were drugs, Her bf will now dump her and find another drug mule.
Dave should now become home secretary and get David Davis arrested for pretending he is taking us out of Europe. (sorry Dave couldnt resist it. lol) no offence ...I'm one of ur biggest fans.

She has been in detention for 18 months. In these parts this case has been known of locally well before bozos Boris & Gove got in front of the cameras. Perhaps they are looking for future roles in films, like wot Laurel & Hardy did. Theres a vacancy that Boris may well be suited for to replace some groper called Weinstein :shock:

Nothing like mistaking readily available facts to stoke the fires. Perhaps you should stand in for Mrs Mayhem alongside Dave as FS  Or become newspaper editors

Nothing like admitting to a mistake is there? See above - I did. As for becoming a politician or newspaper editor, I wouldn't mind the dosh and gravy but I'd fail miserably because I find it difficult to lie. On the other hand, given the last 18 months shambles of government or lack of, I probably wouldn't do any worse!

The difference though is that Bumbling Boris and Judas Gove are paid to know what's going on and act professionally, always having the interest of our civilians at heart. From what I've seen and read (borne out by Boris's apology) in the positions they hold, they should both learn to engage brain before opening mouth. Remember, these people keep reminding us about democracy and they are supposed to represent the people.

It is not Boris it is the Iranians who are accusing her of teaching or recruiting and training people to spread propaganda against Iran.
He was simply recounting the Iranians charge against her, which is what his department will have had to deal with.
Why does anyone think Boris would invent charges ?

Recounting the charges would not have been serious. Boris, as I understand it, stated that she was merely teaching journalism as if it wasn't the problem it is. I may have that wrong.

I don't know the background of this web site but it includes a transcript of him saying "She was simply teaching people journalism as I understand it, at the very limit" He goes on to say he hopes for a solution and it's totally contrary to the interests of the Iranian people.

Virtually all the press including Tory flag wavers repeat this and are critical of his comments.

Like I say, he needs to learn to engage his brain before opening his mouth.
    - Especially when it concerns the safety of one of our citizens.

Makes me wonder if May is being a bit sly by going up against Putin a week before 'the Clown' is due to visit Moscow.
"See how he deals with the Russians after that" I can imagine her saying.

Take this in the context of being the person dealing with the Iranians over this incident and listening to their charges, she is of duel nationality and the notion that a Reuters employee and ex-BBC journalist was just on holiday is clearly something that has raised their suspicions.
He did engage his brain, its the journalists scenting blood at the risk of this womans freedom who didn't.
They are already moving on to making someone elses life a misery forgetting that their semantics juggling has made life difficult for her.
The problem starts and ends with an Iranian regime that locks people up for spurious reason to maintain control.

Aah... so Boris is as pure as the driven snow, then. And all the media reports are lies or invalid (while I was looking for a transcript I didn't one supporting).

Just another diversion that gets "that subject" out of the limelight while our cabinet continues squabbling etc.

I don't understand that reply, no one to my knowledge has suggested Boris has lied about this matter ?

Are you are talking about other issues ?

I didn't say Boris had lied. My post says "Aah... so Boris is as pure as the driven snow, then. And all the media reports are lies or invalid..." - I was responding to your earlier comments painting him as white as snow (ish) i.e.: You said (above) "He did engage his brain, its the journalists scenting blood at the risk of this womans freedom who didn't."

But (if the transcript is true) he played right into the Iranian's hands with his comment "She was simply teaching people journalism as I understand it, at the very limit".

As Foreign Sec, whether he/we agrees with it or not, Journalism in Iran is classified as "semi-illegal"... on this website:
https://freedomhouse.org/report/freedom-press/2016/iran it says "Article 24 of the constitution guarantees freedom of the press, but with a broad exception for content that is deemed “detrimental to the fundamental principles of Islam or the rights of the public.” The article describes how "Several publications were closed or suspended..."

But whilst I agree with you that it starts and ends with the ruling regime, once more as Foreign Sec Boris is surely aware that journalists are hounded down and he should also be aware that anything he said could be seized upon and used as a supportng "statement for the prosecution". So (repeating sin - if the transcript is correct) if that's Boris engaging his brain before speaking then Lord help us if he talks off the cuff!

I must say that usually this kind of situation gets the media split, usually down left and right lines but as I said rather to my surprise while I was looking for a transcript I didn't come across any article supporting him in this matter.
